Job summary

Middlebury College’s Center for Health and Wellness seeks a dedicated Counselor to support the mental health and wellbeing of our student community. The role involves short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and proactive outreach, with opportunities to promote wellness in a collaborative, educational environment.

The successful candidate will bring a commitment to student-centered care, build meaningful connections, and help reduce stigma campus-wide.

Qualifications

• Clinical experience in assessment, treatment planning, shared decision‑making, and crisis response.
• Commitment to multicultural approaches to clinical care.
• Commitment to addressing intersections of multiple identities and their related health outcomes.
• Collaboration with clinical and administrative staff to support student success.
• Knowledge of the social, psychological, and physical developmental stages of students (2 years of experience; graduate placements/internships may count toward this prerequisite).
• Master’s degree required in counseling, psychology, social work, or related clinical field with current, or eligible to obtain within 6 months, Vermont licensure.

Responsibilities

• Provides psychological counseling and crisis intervention for students
• Implements appropriate assessments and clinical interventions
• Facilitates group workshops, therapy, and series as assigned to contribute to meet outreach goals
• Builds relationships with campus community to reduce stigma and increase help/service seeking
• Completes timely documentation in the EHR according to best practices and Counseling policies
• Facilitates skills and process trainings for students and employees as assigned
• Consults with Director, Counseling staff, and other Center for Health and Wellness colleagues around risk management, referrals, confidentiality, and crisis management support
• Participates in Counselor on-call rotation

Education

Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related clinical field
