Job summary

Badlands National Park in South Dakota seeks a Camp Host to maintain campgrounds, protect the natural environment, and provide a safe, welcoming area for visitors.

As a Camp Host you will collect fees, perform site cleaning, handle basic repairs, and report issues to the maintenance supervisor while wearing the park uniform. This role emphasizes customer service and teamwork with physical stamina to perform duties efficiently.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-2 years of customer service experience preferred.
• Ability to lift 25-30 pounds occasionally.
• Professional communication and teamwork required.
• Commitment to safety and integrity in park operations.

Responsibilities

• Collect camping and vehicle fees from visitors.
• Clean bathrooms, campsites, fire rings and any other assigned areas.
• Dispose of trash and maintain receptacles.
• Report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisor.
• Replace light bulbs and supplies in buildings.
• Maintain campground appearance by mowing, trimming, watering.
• Report safety or maintenance issues promptly to the maintenance supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Title: Camp Host

Reports To: District Manager Department: Operations

Summary Of Position

Ensure the Campgrounds are effectively maintained to protect the natural environment and ensure a clean and safe environment for all visitors

Responsibilities

• In an honest and ethical manner, collect camping and vehicle fees for visitors as well as money from fee tubes (if applicable)
• Clean bathrooms, camp sites, fire rings and any other assigned areas in a manner consistent with company expectations
• Consistently dispose of trash and maintain receptacles
• Report any needs related to minor building or equipment repair to supervisor
• Replace light bulbs and supplies in buildings including in bathrooms
• Maintain environment in a neat manner by cutting grass, trimming shrubs and trees and watering plants. Perform other campground duties related to maintaining a neat and clean appearance
• Immediately report any maintenance concerns or unsafe conditions or needed repairs to the maintenance supervisor
• Other duties as requested

Requirements

• Possess upbeat and professional verbal and written communication skills
• Must be a positive team player with a can-do attitude
• Must be organized and able to adhere to schedules
• Must represent the Company and Park/Forest in a professional manner by wearing a company uniform, name badge, etc.
• Must be able to lift up to 25-30 pounds occasionally
• Understand and perform basic math
• Must be able to bend, twist, squat and stand on feet for up to 8-10 hours per day

Education and Experience

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Minimum one-two (1-2) years’ customer service experience
