Job summary

Badlands National Park is seeking a General Maintenance I to assist the maintenance team in sustaining lodging, retail, dining, and housing facilities. You will handle work orders, perform routine repairs, and support safety and visitor service goals.

Requirements include a high school diploma (or equivalent); 1 year of maintenance/ construction experience; and willingness to grow in maintenance operations. National Park experience is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school Diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical certification/degree preferred.
  • Experience: 1 year of general maintenance and/or construction.
  • National Park experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and complete work orders promptly according to Maintenance policies.
  • Perform basic maintenance and mechanical duties for buildings and facilities.
  • Capable of hands-on repairs in multiple maintenance disciplines.
  • Comply with safety policies including when lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Assist other team members with maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Provide polite, knowledgeable customer service to visitors.
  • Understand and support ISO environmental and quality management responsibilities.
  • Other duties per Duties Checklist and as assigned.

Title: General Maintenance I
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Department: Maintenance

Summary of Position

Responsible for assisting the Maintenance team in performing a variety of basic skills involved in the upkeep of buildings and grounds, including lodging, retail stores, restaurants and housing.

Responsibilities:
  • Receive and complete work orders, in a timely and efficient manner, as required by Maintenance Department policies and procedures. Must assist in the completion, tracking and reporting of work orders
  • Perform assigned maintenance and mechanical duties for buildings and associated facilities, furnishings and equipment as requested
  • Capable of “hands on repairs” in most maintenance disciplines
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures including when lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Be available to assist other team members with maintenance related tasks
  • Polite, knowledgeable and timely customer service when responding to visitor inquiries
  • Understand the Company’s ISO (Environmental & Quality) management systems, policies, goals, and initiatives and meet the specific responsibilities within these areas
  • Other duties per Duties Checklist and as assigned
Position Requirements:
  • Demonstrate basic skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment common to maintenance and repair
  • Possess the initiative to learn and willingness to grow in maintenance operations
  • Understand and effectively follow oral and written instructions
  • Must be able to work on ladders, scaffolding, elevated platforms or crawl spaces, tunnels, ledges and roofs and understand the OSHA safety requirements as applicable
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be able to work a variety of day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Must have a valid driver’s license to operate vehicles throughout property
Education and Experience:
  • Education: High school Diploma or equivalent
  • Technical certification/degree preferred
  • Experience: 1 year of general maintenance and/or construction
  • National Park experience preferred
