Job Overview
Under the direction of the Family Programming Director, the Summer Camp Sports Instructor is responsible for leading camp rotations in one specialized sport—Tennis, Aquatics/Swimming, Pickleball, or Golf—for children ages three to fifteen. The Instructor ensures a safe, clean, and engaging environment, provides age‑appropriate instruction, adheres to department guidelines, and promotes fun and skill development within their area of expertise.
Primary Job Functions
- Organize campers ages three to fifteen for specialized sports rotations.
- Maintain safe, clean sports areas (organize equipment, wipe surfaces, store equipment).
- Supervise campers during activities, addressing safety concerns promptly.
- Plan and lead age‑appropriate sports activities such as drills, scrimmages, and games.
- Greet parents and children warmly; encourage participation.
- Engage campers during sessions, ensuring active participation.
- Safely transfer campers to and from activities within the Club.
- Arrive punctually for all scheduled activities; set up and store equipment properly.
- Represent the camp and club professionally through positive interactions, appropriate attire, and timely responses.
- Communicate with the Family Programming Director and parents regarding camper progress or issues.
- Participate in camp events, staff meetings, training sessions, and marketing efforts related to the camp.
Tennis Oversight (if applicable)
- Organize and lead tennis activities for campers ages three to twelve.
- Teach tennis fundamentals such as grip, strokes, footwork, and rules.
- Promote a positive learning environment encouraging skill development.
- Monitor safety on and around the courts, addressing hazards promptly.
- Provide constructive feedback.
- Assist with setup and cleanup of tennis activities.
Aquatics Oversight (if applicable)
- Organize and lead aquatics activities for campers ages three to twelve.
- Teach swimming fundamentals and water safety skills.
- Conduct swim evaluations and group placements.
- Track and document attendance.
- Enforce pool rules and safety policies.
- Monitor behavior and address safety concerns immediately.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the aquatics center.
Golf Oversight (if applicable)
- Organize and lead golf activities for campers ages six to fourteen.
- Teach golf fundamentals such as grip, stance, swing mechanics, and course etiquette.
- Monitor behavior during activities, promoting sportsmanship.
- Provide positive feedback to improve skills.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the golf area.
Pickleball Oversight (if applicable)
- Organize and lead pickleball activities for campers ages three to twelve.
- Teach pickleball fundamentals such as grip, paddle control, footwork, and rules.
- Encourage participation and foster teamwork.
- Monitor safety and enforce court policies.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the courts.
Other Job Functions
- Communicate timely and follow up as appropriate.
- Active participation in required events, programs, meetings, and trainings.
- Flexibility in work schedule: day, evening, weekends, holidays.
Qualifications
- Minimum one year of experience working with children in a childcare, babysitting, camp, coaching, or instructional setting.
- Competitive playing experience at the high school or collegiate level in one or more of: Aquatics, Tennis, Pickleball, or Golf.
- Strong understanding of fundamentals, techniques, and rules of the sport(s).
- CPR certification required.
- Professional, friendly manner and excellent customer service attitude.
- Strong verbal communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable team player.
- Self‑motivated, takes initiative, and willing to acquire new skills.
- Well‑organized and detail oriented.
Aquatics‑Specific Qualifications (if applicable)
- Current Lifeguard / CPR / AED certification for adults, infants, and toddlers.
- Experience teaching swim lessons for all ages.
- Understanding of best practices in learn‑to‑swim techniques, competitive swim skills, and childhood development.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
- Ability to arrive on time for all scheduled shifts; work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to adjust to changes in the work environment.
- Daily public contact.
- Need to deal with unpleasant or angry people and problem‑solve difficult situations.
- Adapt to a frequently changing environment.
- Use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms.
