Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is hiring a Camp Specialty Instructor for the Covington Family YMCA. This role focuses on designing curriculum and leading specialty camp activities, including safety and leadership development for youth.

You will coordinate with the Youth Development Director, create engaging lesson plans, and ensure a safe, dynamic camp environment with strong customer service for families.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older (preferred 21+)
• High School Diploma in progress or completed or GED
• 2+ years of experience working with children in a structured setting
• Background and expertise in a specialty area
• Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, database management
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, solve problems, and manage time effectively
• Strong customer service skills and hospitality mindset
• Must pass BFTS background check and drug tests
• CPR/First Aid within 30 days of employment and maintain during employment

Responsibilities

• Promote, monitor, evaluate, and ensure day camp programs run smoothly with high service levels
• Manage site cleanliness and safe environment for all students
• Lead programming in specialized topics to enrich the day camp program
• Develop and implement lesson plans focused on skill development
• Provide campers with leadership skills and lifelong lessons through activities
• Consult with Youth Development Director on camper behavior concerns
• Carry out daily program tasks within scope and responsibility
• Stay updated on current issues regarding day camp programs
• Maintain and report incident/accident paperwork
• Maintain certifications (CPR, First Aid, staff orientation, branch procedures)
