Job summary

YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg is seeking a Senior Staff leader for Camp Stephens, an island camp experience that blends safety, inclusion and a mission-driven culture. You will guide the Program Team, mentor staff, recruit and train, and ensure high-quality camper activities across sections.

You will supervise, plan, train, and evaluate staff while coordinating budgets and administrative tasks to support program delivery and safety commitments throughout the season.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership experience in a camp, recreation, or youth-focused environment.
• Proven ability to manage programs and lead diverse teams effectively.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with experience in staff supervision and training.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate exemplary leadership and professionalism, serving as a role model to all staff and fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
• Assume primary leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Camp Director, ensuring seamless operations and effective decision-making.
• Provide direct supervision and support to Section Coordinators, Assistant Program Coordinator and the Program Team, ensuring alignment with camp goals and camper experience standards.
• Actively participate in staff recruitment, including conducting interviews and contributing to performance evaluations.
• Develop, organize, and deliver comprehensive training programs to equip staff with the skills and knowledge needed for success.
• Oversee planning and delivery of all camper activities, ensuring consistency and quality across sections.
• Establish and uphold risk management systems that reflect current best practices in the camping industry, prioritizing safety.
• Prepare a detailed end-of-season report, capturing observations, recommendations, and an inventory of program resources and activities.
