Job summary

Qualifications

• ServSafe Certification required or ability to obtain it.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification required or ability to obtain it.
• Experience in a commercial kitchen, preferably with high-volume meal preparation.
• Proficiency across a wide range of cooking methods and culinary techniques.
• Working knowledge of food preparation, safe food handling, inventory control, and culinary math.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals in a timely, cost-effective way using menus and dietary guidelines.
• Apply best practices in food safety, sanitation, and health code compliance to ensure a safe dining environment.
• Determine portions based on age groups and program needs to ensure service quality and minimize waste.
• Use a full range of cooking methods (baking, broiling, sautéing, braising, grilling, frying, roasting, steaming) as required.
• Support food ordering, inventory control, and proper storage practices as assigned.
• Communicate openly and professionally with staff, AmeriCorps members, and participants.
• Contribute to a positive dining experience reflecting hospitality, care, and community.
• Support and steward systems that promote environmentally and socially responsible food service operations.
• Collaborate with kitchen and program teams to improve efficiency, sustainability, and service quality.
• Engage across program areas and represent the mission to internal and external stakeholders.
