Job summary

The Greater Austin YMCA is seeking a Camp Facilities Technician to maintain safe, welcoming camp facilities, grounds, and equipment. You will support daily programs, assist with repairs, and help prepare cabins and activity spaces for campers and staff.

You will bring 3–5 years in facility or grounds maintenance, hands-on skills with tools, and a service-focused mindset, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • 3–5 years of facility or grounds maintenance experience.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment safely.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Willingness to travel to assigned locations; valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance across camp facilities and equipment.
  • Maintain camp grounds, trails, and outdoor spaces for safety and enjoyment.

Job description

The Camp Facilities Technician plays a critical role in creating a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment where campers, families, and staff can build meaningful experiences. By caring for camp facilities, equipment, and outdoor spaces, this role ensures the property is ready to support daily programs, activities, and community connections. Through proactive maintenance, skilled repairs, and thoughtful stewardship of the camp environment, the Facilities Technician helps protect the organization’s assets while contributing to a positive and memorable experience for everyone who visits.

How You Will Make an Impact
Maintain Safe and Operational Camp Facilities
  • Complete routine maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities across camp buildings, facilities, and equipment.
  • Perform basic repairs related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical systems, and general building maintenance.
  • Inspect facilities and identify safety concerns, maintenance needs, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support the readiness of cabins, common areas , activity spaces, and other camp facilities.
Maintain Grounds and Outdoor Spaces
  • Maintain camp grounds , trails, landscaping, recreation areas, and outdoor spaces to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
  • Perform seasonal groundskeeping activities, including mowing, trimming, pruning, planting, watering, leaf removal, and general cleanup.
  • Maintain outdoor equipment, tools, and recreational areas as assigned.
  • Assist with weather-related needs such as storm cleanup, snow removal, or other seasonal requirements.
Support Camp Operations
  • Respond to maintenance requests and operational needs in a timely and service-oriented manner.
  • Assist with setup, repairs, and improvements that support camp programs, activities, and events.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with camp leadership and other departments to support daily operations.
Protect Camp Property and Resources
  • Perform preventative maintenance to extend the life of buildings, equipment, and property assets.
  • Identify potential issues early and communicate recommendations to prevent larger repairs.
  • Maintain tools, supplies, equipment, and maintenance records.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Y
  • High School Diploma or GED required .
  • Strong communication , organization, and customer service skills.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in facility maintenance, grounds maintenance, construction, property management, or a related field.
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to assigned locations as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license required .
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency service schedules as needed.
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical work throughout the day. The Camp Facilities Technician must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, operate maintenance and groundskeeping equipment, and work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
