Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is seeking a Camp Cook for Camp Duncan to prepare and cook meals to high standards for campers and guests under the Camp Food Service Manager's supervision.

You will oversee meal-related kitchen duties, supervise aides and dishwashers, and contribute to a safe, clean, and welcoming kitchen environment. This role offers growth opportunities within the organization and a pay rate of $17.05–$20.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of work experience in food service; cook experience preferred.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Willingness to be trained in operating kitchen equipment.
• Willingness to follow health/sanitation practices.
• Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of food preparation including cooking and serving food according to set standards.
• Utilize a variety of cooking techniques: baking, sautéing, grilling, steaming, frying, etc.
• Use a variety of kitchen equipment (slicer, ovens, griddles, mixers, knives, etc.).
• Quality control and maintain a clean kitchen.
• Be able to understand menu planning details and substitutions as needed.
• Stock and rotate inventory; follow health department standards.
• Maintain temperature logs on all refrigerators/freezers.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
