Job summary

YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside, IL is looking for a Camp Cook to prepare and cook meals per camp, YMCA, County, and State standards. Under the Camp Food Service Manager, you will handle all meal-related kitchen duties and help supervise aides and dishwashers.

The pay range is $17.05-$20.00 per hour for a part-time position, with opportunities to grow within the organization and access to YMCA benefits and training.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year of work experience in food service; cook experience preferred.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and sanitation practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to set standards for quality and safety.
• Utilize diverse cooking techniques including baking, sautéing, grilling and steaming.
• Operate kitchen equipment (slicer, ovens, griddles, mixers, knives) and maintain cleanliness.
• Maintain temperature logs and ensure health department standards are met.
• Assist with other kitchen duties and inventory rotation as needed.

Job Location: YMCA Camp Duncan - Ingleside, IL 60041

Position Type: Part Time

Salary Range: $17.05 - $20.00 Hourly

Camp Duncan offers campers and guests year-round amazing experiences! Responsible for providing meals, our Food Service Kitchen Staff's primary function is to ensure each member, guest and visitor receives the highest caliber of service!

Under the direct supervision of the Camp Food Service Manager, the Camp Cook prepares and cooks meals according to standards set forth by the camp, YMCA, County and State. When working shifts apart from the food service manager or as assigned, the Camp Cook is responsible for all meal related kitchen duties including overseeing food aides and dishwashers.

Scope of Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of food preparation including cooking and serving food according to set standards
• Utilize a variety of cooking techniques: baking, sautéing, grilling, steaming, frying etc.
• Use a variety of kitchen equipment (i.e. slicer, ovens, griddles, mixers, knives, etc.)
• Quality control
• Maintain a clean kitchen at all times
• Be able to understand the details of menu planning and substitute items as needed
• Assist with other kitchen duties as needed (i.e. dish washing if the group is small in size)
• Stock and rotate inventory
• Follow and maintain health department standards for food service
• Maintain temperature logs on all refrigerators/freezers
• Other duties as assigned by management

Minimum and Required Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older
• Must have high school diploma or equivalent work/education experience
• Must have minimum 1 year of work experience in food service industry - previous experience as a cook preferred but not required
• Must have ability to follow oral & written instructions
• Willingness to be trained in operating kitchen equipment
• Willingness to be trained and follow food service sanitation practices
• Be able to have and maintain positive relationships with all customers from point of contact
• Must be able to stand on feet for extended period of time; walk stairs; lift up to 50lbs.

• Reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor
• Following all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children
• Reporting any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor
• Completing all child abuse prevention training as required
