Job Title: Camp Behavior Support Specialist

Hours per week: 25 hours

FLSA Status: Part-time-Non-Exempt Seasonal

Pay Range: $20.00 per hour

Reports To: School Age Childcare and Camp Director

POSITION SUMMARY

Supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Builds members and the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s impact. This position provides direct supervision and addresses behavioral concerns to a group of children and leadership/supervision to lead and assistant staff in a seasonal day camp setting, providing positive engagement with youth in a safe, nurturing environment with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens. Provides quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Build personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests, exemplifying Y’s commitment to the four core values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility, and responding promptly to inquiries.
  • Support camp participants struggling with managing their behaviors.
  • Provide direct supervision and instruction to camp participants following camp guidelines.
  • Assist camp participants in re-regulating and supporting a safe environment.
  • Cultivate strong working relationships with YMCA members, staff, participants, and families.
  • Follow all YMCA emergency and safety procedures.
  • Complete incident and accident reports as necessary and report them to the Camp Director promptly.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, events, reviews, and other scheduled events.
  • Maintain attendance records in an orderly and efficient manner.
  • Uphold all YMCA policies, procedures, standards, and code of conduct.
  • Project a positive, enthusiastic, and professional image on the job.
  • Be self‑motivated and able to work independently or as a team member.
  • Be punctual and dependable.
  • Perform any other functions assigned by the YMCA administration.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Higher education or certificates in Special Education/Behavior Management is preferred.
  • Must pass a background check and provide fingerprinting.
  • 2+ years of experience working in behavior management.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living/education, music (instrumental or songs), dramatic arts, aquatics, sports/PE/recreational games, creative arts.
  • Strong desire to work with youth grades K-8.
  • Strong behavioral management skills.
  • Ability to actively implement program activities.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training completed prior to camp start date.
  • Completed health form prior to start date.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field related to education or behavior management is preferred.
COMPENSATION DETAILS

Hourly wage: $20.00 per hour
