Job summary

Bethany House Services is seeking a Shelter Assistant to greet clients, provide crisis intervention, and help manage daily shelter operations. You will support families, maintain a safe environment, and coordinate supplies with a calm, compassionate approach.

Responsibilities include responding to crises, enforcing policies, and documenting shifts. You will work closely with volunteers and staff to ensure dignified, reliable service in a fast-paced residential setting.

Qualifications

• A year of experience in social services or a very convincing case for readiness.
• Crises de-escalation instincts and boundary setting with warmth.
• Discretion and confidentiality in shelter operations.
• Basic Microsoft Office fluency (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and orient them to shelter spaces.
• Provide crisis intervention and trauma-informed support.
• Enforce shelter policies consistently and fairly.
• Handle logistics: blankets, hygiene supplies, and meals.
• Write shift notes and incident reports.
• Supervise volunteers and support teammates.
