Base pay range

$18.00/hr - $30.20/hr

Job Responsibilities

1. Assemble, fill, and decorate cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order bakery items.
2. Build, ice, and decorate cakes and other bakery items following standard procedures to meet business demand. Complete production and spoilage records, adjusting production sheets as needed.
3. Prioritize production lists and suggest adjustments to optimize workflow.
4. Merchandise and showcase products attractively, monitor quality and freshness, and ensure proper rotation.
5. Support and guide Bakery Decorator Apprentices and team members.
6. Create custom cake designs based on customer preferences.
7. Provide excellent customer service, address customer needs promptly, and promote suggestive selling.
8. Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the work and shopping environment.
9. Perform opening, mid, and closing duties accurately, including signage and pricing.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements

1. Proficient in cake and pastry decorating, including piping techniques and decorative flowers.
2. Understanding of color theory for blending and palette coordination.
3. Ability to apply various icing techniques and recipes.
4. Follow recipes and procedures with good time management.
5. Safe handling of knives and equipment.
6. Basic math skills for recipe adjustments.
7. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
8. Ability to deliver excellent customer service.
9. Work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Experience

• 6-12 months retail or restaurant experience.
• Completion of Bakery Decorator Apprentice training or equivalent.
• Experience in professional bakery or grocery retail preferred.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Stand/walk for 6-8 hours.
• Use hands for grasping, manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
• Perform bending, twisting, squatting, reaching.
• Work with cleaning chemicals and in various temperatures.
• Work in wet/dry conditions and a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, holidays.
• Use tools and heavy machinery, possibly ladders.
