Job description

As a Bakery Decorator, you'll be responsible for creating and decorating cakes, tarts, pastries, and special-order items. Your artistic talents will ensure all bakery goods are finished to high standards, contributing to our commitment to outstanding service and quality.

Job Responsibilities

• Assemble, fill, and decorate cakes, tarts, and other bakery items.
• Build, ice, and decorate baked goods following standard procedures to meet demand.
• Prioritize production and recommend adjustments as needed.
• Merchandise products attractively in display cases, monitor quality, and ensure proper rotation.
• Support and guide Bakery Decorator Apprentices and team members.
• Create custom cake designs based on customer preferences.
• Provide excellent customer service, addressing needs promptly and courteously.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety standards in the work environment.
• Perform opening, mid, and closing duties accurately, including signage and pricing.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements

• Proficient in cake and pastry decorating, including piping and decorative flowers.
• Knowledge of color theory for blending and palette coordination.
• Ability to use various icings and apply proper techniques.
• Follow recipes and procedures with good time management.
• Safe handling of knives, tools, and equipment.
• Basic math skills for recipe adjustments.

Experience

• 6-12 months of retail or restaurant experience preferred.
• Completion of Bakery Decorator Apprentice program or equivalent experience.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Stand/walk for 6-8 hours in an 8-hour shift.
• Use hands for grasping, manipulation, pushing, and pulling.
• Perform bending, twisting, squatting, reaching.
• Work with cleaning chemicals and in various temperature conditions.
• Work in wet and dry conditions, flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Operate tools and equipment, including ladders and heavy machinery.
