Job summary

Glendale Unified School District is seeking part-time cafeteria workers to assist with serving, food preparation, cash handling, and cleaning in school cafeterias. Positions are available at multiple sites, with varying daily hours and a 9.25 month or 12 month schedule.

Benets include employee-only medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. Applicants must have at least six months of food service experience and a California Class C driver’s license. Bilingual skills are desirable.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience in a quantity food service operation.
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license. Ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates.
• Desirable: Proficiency in a second language (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Sets up serving line according to daily menu.
• Washes and cuts foodstuffs for cooking.
• Assembles salads and sandwiches.
• Replenishes food on serving line.
• Heats prepared food.
• Prepares cash for deposit.
• Operates a point-of-sale computer terminal.
• Maintains site lists of students enrolled in food service programs.
• Prepares sales reports.
• Cleans up after meals, cleans counters and equipment, and washes pots and pans.
• Performs related duties, as assigned.

Job description

Performs cafeteria worker assignments in a school cafeteria including assembling sandwiches, serving on a meal line, washing pots and pans, heating prepared foods, and computer point-of-sale operation.

Only current permanent employees in the Classified service of the Glendale Unified School District qualify to apply.

Current Vacancies:

• Three (3) part‑time positions:
• Daily High School (5 hrs./day, 9.25 mos./yr.)
• Hoover High School (6.5 hrs./day, 9.25 mos./yr.)
• Pacific Avenue Education Center (PAEC) (5.5 hrs./day, 12 mos./yr.)

Part‑time benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for the employee only.

Minimum Requirements

• Six months of experience in a quantity food service operation.
• License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license. Also, ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.
• Desirable: Written and oral proficiency in a second language.

Continuing Education/Training Requirements

• Each year, at least 6 hours of annual continuing education/training including topics such as:
• Free and reduced price eligibility.
• Application certification and verification procedures.
• The identification of reimbursable meals at the point of service.
• Nutrition, health, and safety standards.
• Any specific topics required by the USDA, Food Nutrition Services as needed to address program integrity or other critical issues.
• The required continuing education/training will be paid for by the district.

Class Qualifications

Knowledge of

• General food preparation practices and procedures.
• Kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Basic math and simple keyboard skills needed to operate a point-of-sale computer terminal.

Ability to

• Wash, heat, cut, and assemble foods and ingredients.
• Follow applicable health and sanitation requirements.
• Present a positive image of the food service program on a school campus.
• Perform work efficiently during rush conditions.
• Follow oral and written instructions.
• Operate a point-of-sale computer terminal.

• Work without direct supervision.
