Job summary

WESTBROOK PUBLIC SCHOOLS is seeking a part-time food service assistant to prepare, cook, serve and help manage meals for students and staff. You will follow district and health guidelines, assist with procurement and inventory, and handle basic financial records under supervision.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, basic math and reading skills, and the ability to stay on your feet in kitchen heat and cold while lifting up to 50 pounds. CT sanitation credentials may be pursued.

Qualifications

• Experience in food service preferred.
• Must be able to read, perform basic math, and follow guidelines.
• Able to work as part of a team and maintain safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, serve and assist in accounting for nutritious meals for students and staff.
• Follow district, NSLP/NSBP, and health department guidelines.
• Assist with procuring foods and related supplies and maintain inventory.
• Prepare and review bank deposits and other financial records.
• Operate kitchen and office equipment.

Job description

Approx: 22.5 hrs per week

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following qualities:

• Be energetic, personable, and courteous with all clientele in and about the school;
• Possess demonstrated experience working in the food service industry;
• Willingness to work as part of a positive member of a team

Responsibilities include:

• Under regular supervision, preparing, cooking, serving and assist in accounting for nutritious meals to student and staff
• Follow established guidelines, procedures, standards and regulations of the District, the National School Lunch/Breakfast Program and Department of Public Health
• Assisting with procuring foods and related supplies and maintain inventory
• Prepare and/or review bank deposits and other financial records
• Operate a variety of kitchen and office equipment

Qualifications:

• Requires High School diploma, GED, or specialized training and experience in institutional food service.
• Ability to obtain State of Connecticut Sanitation Certification and/or ServSafe credentials
• Must be able to read, add, subtract, multiply, divide, make change, determine time and weight.
• Stay on feet for long periods of time, work in extreme temperatures(kitchen heat, freezer cold) and life and/and or carry cartons, pots or related material weighing 25-50 pounds
• Possess basic computer skills
