Job summary

Career Success Schools in Phoenix is seeking a food service worker to assist in the preparation, serving, and cleanup of meals in a school cafeteria. You will manage point-of-sale transactions with accuracy, uphold HACCP standards, and maintain clean serving lines while delivering friendly customer service.

The role requires a high school diploma, English literacy, and a valid Food Handler’s Certificate (or the ability to obtain within 30 days).

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read and write English as it pertains to job functions.
  • Current Food Handler's Certificate or acquire within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience in food preparation & handling desired.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check.
  • Must display arithmetic ability and accurate record-keeping.
  • Ability to operate a computerized cash register.
  • Ability to operate institutional equipment desirable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community.
  • Vision and hearing adequate for safe work.
  • Adherence to policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of HACCP food safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Collect and account for prepayment and real-time transactions of student meals.
  • Maintain an appropriate change fund for registers.
  • Accurately perform cashier duties and end-of-day procedures as requested.
  • Prepare, stock, and maintain the serving line area and/or assist in food preparation and clean up.
  • Accurately identify a reimbursable meal on the serving line, and provide monitoring and guidance to customers to be sure selections meet federal guidelines.
  • Safely operate standard and specialized kitchen equipment, including convection/combi ovens, microwave ovens, dishwashers, air fryer ovens, food warmers, coolers, and freezers.
  • Set up serving line with appropriate equipment, adhering to safety measures.
  • Wash dishes and equipment according to Maricopa County Health Department guidelines.
  • Clean work areas and dispose of garbage daily.
  • Assist the manager in monitoring and verifying HACCP procedures, including temperature, sanitizing, and storage logs.
  • Ensure product quality by visual inspection and adherence to cooking/serving guidelines.
  • Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to the position, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner.
  • Perform other duties relating to the general job function as assigned by the supervisor

Job description

Job Goal:

To assist in the preparation, serving, and clean-up of food in a quantity food service operation using safe and efficient food handling practices; and to provide accurate and efficient point-of-sale operations while adhering to excellence in customer service

  • Vision and hearing are adequate to exercise job responsibilities in a safe manner
