Job summary

Chandler Unified School District is seeking a Food & Nutrition Cafe Assistant Manager at the Elementary level for 6.0 hours. You will support the food service manager in cash handling, meal service, and daily operations in the campus cafeteria.

Responsibilities include ensuring HACCP compliance, operating the cash register, maintaining records, coordinating with staff, and providing friendly service to students and parents while safeguarding district policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Food Handler's Certificate required/desired.
  • Experience handling money is preferred.
  • Ability to operate a computerized cash register and make change accurately.
  • Strong record-keeping and math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Display knowledge of HACCP guidelines and procedures.

JOB TITLE: CAFÉ ASSISTANT MANAGER - ELEMENTARY

CALENDAR: 1911FT (9 MONTH)

SALARY: GRADE 108 (SUPPORT HOURLY)

Job Goal:

Independently perform and work cooperatively with the food service manager to collect and account for cash received during food service sales, and to assist in the performance of food service programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Food Handler's Certificate
  • Previous experience in handling money is desired
  • Ability to operate a computerized cash register and make change rapidly and accurately
  • Ability to keep accurate records
  • Ability to work with figures and to make mathematical calculations
  • Ability to communicate with parents and students regarding the food service program
  • Ability to fill in manager/supervisory duties in the kitchen manager’s absence
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all policies, regulations, and rules

Core Job Functions:

  • Display, demonstrate thorough knowledge of HACCP food safety guidelines and procedures
  • Collect and account for prepayment and real-time transactions of student meals
  • Maintain an appropriate change fund for registers
  • Accurately perform cashiering duties and end-of-day procedures as requested
  • Prepare, stock & maintain the serving line area and/or assist in food preparation and clean up
  • Accurately identify a reimbursable meal on the serving line; provide monitoring & guidance to customers to be sure selections meet federal guidelines.
  • Safely operate standard and specialized kitchen equipment, including convection/combi ovens, microwave ovens, dishwashers, air fryer ovens, food warmers, coolers, and freezers
  • Set up serving line with appropriate serving equipment, utensils, and safety measures
  • Wash dishes and equipment according to Maricopa County Health Department guidelines
  • Clean work areas and dispose of garbage daily
  • Assist the manager in verifying and monitoring HACCP procedures, including temperature, sanitizer, and storage logs
  • Ensures product quality by visual inspection & adherence to cooking/serving guidelines provided to maintain customer satisfaction
  • Assist in ordering/inventory tasks – assist in quality assurance of products served
  • Respond to all internal and external customers, as it relates to the position, in a prompt, efficient, friendly, and patient manner
  • Maintain courteous relationships with students, staff, parents, and community, treating all with respect
  • Perform manager duties as required in the absence of the manager/supervisor
  • Performs all related duties as required

Physical Requirements – Heavy Work:

  • Ability to work extended periods of time in extreme temperatures (cold salad/sandwich prep, inventory for freezer & coolers)
  • Positions in this classification typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, sitting, finger or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, speaking, hearing, seeing (with correction), focusing ability, or other factors applicable to the job.
  • Employee must be able to stand and walk constantly on various floor surfaces while performing various duties, including but not limited to push/pull force of up to 100 pounds for various machines.
  • Employee must stand constantly and walk frequently, lifting items of various sizes, up to 50 pounds. Items over 50 pounds require a second staff member to lift safely.
  • Employee may rarely be required to climb ladders, to perform various stocking, inventory, cleaning or maintenance tasks
  • Employees may be subject to travel, fumes, odors, chemicals, blood-borne pathogens, workplace restrictions, cold and/or hot temperatures, and loud noises
