Job summary

New London Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Food Service Worker to assist in preparing and cooking hot lunches in alignment with HACCP guidelines. The role reports to the Child Nutrition Program Director and starts at $20.29 per hour.

The position is full-time for 10 months with a benefits package and a strong emphasis on customer service for a welcoming school dining experience. Bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of routine duties related to the preparation and serving of food, including cleaning of the kitchen area and cooking equipment.
• Able to understand written material, rules, regulations, and apply the material to the position.
• Customer service is a major component of ensuring a friendly, welcoming environment for students.

Position Overview: Prepare and cook items following a menu and following hazardous assessment of critical control points (HACCP).

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Does all the cooking for hot lunches.
• Helps serving lunches.
• Prepares food for the next day.
• Cleans tables and stove.
• Helps others who need help when duties are finished.
• Ability to adjust recipes, using basic math skills, to accommodate the number of students to be fed.
• Performs such other related tasks as the Food Services Manager assigns.

Preferred Requirements:

• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Haitian Creole highly desirable.
