Job summary

Grand Central Bakery in Portland, Oregon is seeking a part-time Café Team Member to support a welcoming café environment and serve delicious products to a loyal community.

You’ll work across stations, follow the 3 Steps to Great Service, handle cash with accuracy, and use POS, R365, and KDS to keep operations smooth and friendly. Weekend availability is required.

Rate of pay is $17.65 per hour plus tips, with tips averaging an additional $10–$12 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required.
  • Maintains a valid Food Handler's Card at all times and follows health department guidelines.
  • Must demonstrate regular attendance by coming to work on scheduled working days and being on time.
  • Ability to add, subtract, and perform basic math with ease required.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Ability to interact with customers for a full shift, in a busy, loud environment with frequent change, while maintaining outstanding customer service required.
  • Food service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers outstanding customer service by following the 3 Steps to Great Service and sharing product knowledge.
  • Works across all stations and shifts for which trained and assigned (retail opening/closing, sandwich bar, baking, prep, mid-shifts).
  • Supports training of team members and promotes a welcoming environment for new hires.
  • Uses resources like checklists and training documents to complete work accurately.
  • Is proficient with GCB systems (POS, R365, KDS) and may place orders as needed.
  • Adheres to proper POS and cash handling procedures with careful accuracy.
  • Makes and serves café products to specification, even during rushes.
  • Contributes to a proactive, collaborative atmosphere and seeks feedback for improvement.

Job Summary: The Café Team Member’s role is an integral part of the efficient, enthusiastic team that makes Grand Central Bakery’s vibrant cafes such wonderful spaces to be in. The Café Team Member is passionate about supporting a welcoming café environment and serving delicious products to a community of loyal customers. They deliver outstanding customer service, following the 3 Steps to Great Service at all times, and can work any shift or station for which they are trained. The Café Team Member uses company systems proficiently, handles cash accurately, and contributes to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative atmosphere in support of Grand Central Bakery’s mission, vision, and values.

Rate of Pay :This position pays $17.65 plus tips.

  • Tips average $10.00 - $12.00 per hour.

Specific requirements: Must be available for weekends and the up coming Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays.

Schedule :

  • Part-time role
  • Schedule flexibility, including days of the week and time of day, is required. Ability to work weekends is required.

Supervision : This position reports to the Café Manager.

Essential job responsibilities:

  • Delivers outstanding customer service - follows the 3 Steps to Great Service at all times. Regularly shares knowledge about product sourcing with customers and team members – demonstrating enthusiasm for Grand Central Bakery’s (GCB) mission, vision, and values. Goes the extra mile by delivering food to customers, engaging about products and specials, and anticipating customer needs. Demonstrates the ability to stay calm and maintain composure during busy or uncertain situations.
  • The Cafe Team Member consistently works at all stations and shifts for which they are trained and assigned. Is able to complete assigned work with efficiency and accuracy. Shifts include retail opening, retail closing, sandwich bar opening, sandwich bar closing, pastry baking, baking prep., and mid-shifts .
  • Supports the training of team members by helping create a welcoming and inclusive environment for new hires. They answer everyday questions, support job shadowing during shifts, and model expected behaviors and teamwork.
  • Uses resources such as checklists and training documents to complete work accurately and proficiently.
  • Is proficient with GCB systems including the POS, R365, and KDS and utilizes training documents and how-to guides to complete work accurately and efficiently. May place orders when assigned.
  • Adheres to proper POS and cash handling procedures with a high level of accuracy.
  • Makes and serves all café products to GCB specifications, including during a rush. Is able to identify products that do not meet specifications and remove them from sale.
  • Demonstrates a proactive, "pitches in" mentality by volunteering to help others and improve the café environment. Takes initiative, contributes ideas, and is solutions-oriented while maintaining cleanliness through tasks such as bussing, washing dishes, and completing all necessary café cleaning duties.
  • Demonstrates self-awareness by reflecting on strengths and areas for growth while actively seeking feedback and engaging in continuous learning to improve performance and develop new skills.
  • Knows and acts in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Grand Central Bakery in all parts of their job.
  • Works collaboratively with a team. Communicates respectfully and professionally with teammates.
  • Maintains competencies and demonstrates continuous application of these skills throughout the period of employment.

Environmental Conditions:
