Job summary

The Bay Club Company in San Diego is seeking a friendly Cafe Associate to greet guests, prepare and serve food and beverages, and maintain a clean, inviting cafe environment.

You will operate a cash register, handle payments, promote daily specials, and support club members with attentive service during varying shifts, including weekends and holidays. This role emphasizes hospitality and safety while maintaining high cleanliness standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience in customer service or food service preferred.
  • State Food Handler Certification (if applicable).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle payments accurately.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers as they enter and exit the Café.
  • Create and serve food and beverage items.
  • Promote daily specials and encourage upgrades to each order.
  • Operate cash register and process payments (cash, credit, and member charges).
  • Assist with cafe opening/closing duties as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment according to food safety standards.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and respond to member needs.
  • Represent the club professionally through appearance and conduct.
  • Adhere to weekend/holiday hours as needed.

Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY This position is responsible for creating and serving food & beverages in the Café, maintaining Cafe cleanliness and providing the highest level of Customer Service and Hospitality.

Primary Job Functions
  • Greet customers as they enter and exit the Café
  • Create and serve food and beverage items
  • Promote daily specials and encourage upgrades to each order
  • Operate cash register, process payments through cash or credit card handling and/or member account charges
  • Café opening and/or closing duties, as required
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment according to State and Local food safety standards
  • Understand and anticipate the needs of our members and guests; be attentive, listen carefully and follow through; provide exceptional customer service
  • Communicate timely and follow up as appropriate
  • Active participation in events, programs, meetings and training
  • Represent the club in a professional manner through image, dress, communication, and immediate follow through and response
  • Schedule varies and may require weekend and holiday hours, days and evenings

Skills & Knowledge

Ability to read/understand, analyze, and interpret general training manuals, professional journals, or technical procedures; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from children, managers, Associates, members, and the general public. Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Experience
  • Minimum one (1) year of Customer Service experience (food service industry experience preferred)
  • State Food Handler Certification
  • Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) state certification
  • Professional, friendly manner and excellent customer service attitude and abilities
  • Strong verbal communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Enthusiastic, responsible, and dependable team player
  • Self‑motivated, takes initiative, anticipate the needs of others and willing to acquire new skills
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Detail‑orientation and high cleanliness standards
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the Associate is regularly required to stand for extended periods; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The Associate is occasionally required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The Associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
