Job summary

Jeff Rouse Swim & Sports Center is seeking a part-time Café Attendant in Stafford, VA to deliver outstanding guest service and handle payments. You will operate the POS, assist in the kitchen, and engage with guests to ensure quick, friendly service.

The role requires the ability to multitask, stand for long periods, and work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Training includes food handler certification within 60 days.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: Less than high school, or up to 1 month related experience or training, or equivalent combo.
• Language Skills: Read and interpret safety rules, write routine reports, speak to groups.
• Mathematical Skills: Calculate discounts, percentages, and basic algebra/geometry.
• Reasoning Ability: Follow instructions, solve simple problems.
• Computer Skills: Knowledge of MS Office; ability to use POS software.
• Certificates: Food Handler certification within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operate cash register and POS system.
• Operate smoothie station and serve foods/beverages.
• Greet guests, provide friendly, professional service.
• Observe guests, anticipate needs, respond quickly.
• Upsell food and beverage items to increase sales.
• Maintain cleanliness of FOH and cafe area.

• Open/close front-of-house operations and manage station.

Description

The Café Attendant is responsible for providing outstanding guest service, receiving and processing payments, and serving food and beverage items in a timely manner. In addition, the Café Attendant is responsible for engaging with guests behind the customer service counter, as well as beyond the service counter. They will also assist the kitchen team members, as needed, to ensure quick and efficient ticket times. This part-time position reports to the General Manager and Café Lead.

• Operate cash register and Point of Sale (POS) System
• Operate Smoothie Station
• Engage with members and guests to include greeting customers, and providing friendly and professional service
• Observe guests to anticipate their needs and respond quickly to requests
• Build rapport with members and guests
• Upsell food and beverage items
• Actively produce new ideas for business success and efficiency
• Serve food and beverage items in a timely manner
• Open and close the Front of the House (FOH)
• Clean and maintain the Front of the House and the Cafe area
• Organize, stock, and control inventory
• Assist the Back of the House (BOH) team members as needed
• Constantly circulate around the dining area to maintain cleanliness and interact with the guests
• Communicate with managers regarding FOH issues
• Possess strong guest service skills
• Able to multi-task
• Able work irregular shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Able to stand and/or walk for the duration of the shift (8 or more hours)
• Able to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with team members at all levels of the organization
• Knowledge of & respect for Jeff Rouse Swim and Sport Center Mission
• Knowledge of the rules and regulations of JRSSC, including its Personnel Handbook, and abide by them
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as needed, required, or assigned by the Café Lead, and/or the General Manager

Education and/or Experience: Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). Upon hire and training, the individual must be able to successfully utilize the Jeff Rouse Swim and Sport Center Point of Sale software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the following:

Food Handlers Certification (within 60 days of employment)

Age Requirements: Due to hours of operation, the individual must be at least 16 years of age.
