Job summary

The Salvation Army USA Western Territory is seeking a Cafe Attendant at the Kroc Center Hawaii to prepare foods and beverages, maintain hygiene, and deliver excellent customer service. This part‑time role requires flexibility for weekends/holidays and contributes to the center’s mission in the community.

The position involves cashiering, POS use, maintaining service lines, and ensuring food safety and quality from kitchen to cup.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Basic computer skills or experience with POS systems.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience will be accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Learn food and beverage menus and explain items to members and guests.
  • Answer member and guest questions and offer product suggestions.
  • Prepare hot and cold beverages such as coffee, espresso, cappuccino, latte, tea, chai, smoothies, and frappes, and prepare food according to standard recipes.
  • Receive food from the kitchen and place it in designated holding areas at specified temperatures.
  • Defrost food, clean, and prepare produce as assigned.
  • Set up the service line/areas, stock condiments and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Maintain quality and supply levels of food and non-alcoholic beverages, including silverware, glassware, chinaware, utensils, and equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality of all food and cleanliness on service lines.
  • Restock stations for the next meal period.
  • Perform cashiering responsibilities, handling money and credit card transactions, and using the POS system to ring orders and perform closing procedures.
  • Wipe dining tables clean and replenish condiment stations throughout the shift.
  • Clean spills immediately, sanitize service lines and equipment, sweep and mop the floor.
  • Ensure equipment is in working order, reporting damages, safety hazards, or maintenance issues to the Cafe Manager.
  • Return unused food to designated areas and store.
  • Clean and organize supply and storage closets.
  • Report injuries promptly according to procedure.
  • Follow The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
  • Attend staff meetings and other administrative meetings.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Cafe Attendant

Department: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Classification: Part Time, Hour Pay $14.00

Position Summary

The Cafe Attendant is responsible for preparation of food and beverages, maintaining hygiene, and providing excellent customer service. The role requires a deep commitment to The Salvation Army mission, reflected in daily interactions with customers and the community.

Required Education and Experience
  1. Must be at least 16 years of age.
  2. Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  3. Basic computer skills or experience with POS systems.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be accepted.

Preferred Requirements
  1. Six months experience as a food handler in a similar high‑volume, fast‑paced restaurant environment.
  2. Six months guest service experience.
Essential Functions

Physical Demands

The position requires standing and sitting for long periods, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching, crawling, walking, manual dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, use of vision, and lifting or carrying 25 pounds or occasionally more. The employee must be able to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.

Communication Demands

Requires written and verbal communication skills, including speaking, writing, telephone etiquette, reading, and use of modern communication technologies. Interaction with co‑workers and the public must be positive and professional, and must respect people of diverse backgrounds.

Environment

The role operates in close quarters during busy periods, lifting heavy objects, and working near hot ovens and equipment.

Equipment Needs

Coffee brewing equipment, cold beverage equipment, air pots, thermal carafes, display cases, blenders, juice machines, refrigerators, coolers, knives, warmers, commercial microwave ovens, and Turbo Chef.

Certificates and Licenses

TB clearance certificate (required).

Food Handlers Certificate (required).
