Job summary

General Motors in Michigan seeks an experienced CAE Engineer to build and run analytical models, interpret results for customers, and lead new CAE capabilities. You will interact with design teams, CAE suppliers, and internal resources to ensure performance and design integrity.

Responsibilities include planning FEA for projects, analyzing BIW and vehicle components, and driving design improvements. Hybrid work policy applies with 3 days in-office and 2 days remote.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or Aerospace Engineering.
• 5 years of CAE/engineering experience in automotive.
• Experience with 2D/3D CAD modeling and FEA tools.
• Experience with Abaqus, Nastran, and Dyna for linear/non-linear sims.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute development of new CAE capabilities.
• Perform structural analysis on complete vehicle structures.
• Plan and execute CAE tests and virtual assessments.

Job Description

DUTIES:

Gather information from a variety of sources inside and outside GM, build and run analytical models, interpret results for customers, attend development team meetings, and interact with compartment integration teams. Lead and execute development of new engineering analysis capabilities. Participate with Product Development teams on new/major/minor designs, providing analysis to assess performance of new designs. Create and execute Finite Element Analysis (FEA) plans for assigned projects. Lead CAE suppliers and internal resources to meet program milestones and deliverables. Perform structural analysis on complete Trimmed Vehicle Structure Consisting of BIW, Chassis Structure, Interior Structure (IP), Fixed Glass, Bumpers, Modules (i.e. CRFM, Battery), and Closures. Perform and coordinate resources for virtual assessment of designs and compare results to performance requirements. Recommend viable design solutions to resolve any performance issues with mass and cost efficiency. Plan and implement test and/or development programs to enhance CAE capability. Use CAE to explain results of physical testing and engineer solutions to resolve issues with validation and release engineers. Stay abreast of new technology, competitive products, and latest CAE tools/trends. Hybrid Work Policy – 3 days In-Office, 2 Days Remote – Must be able to report to local office.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field and Five (5) years of experience as a CAE Engineer, Automotive Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or related role. Five (5) years of experience with the following: 2D and 3D CAD modeling; Finite Element Analysis Tools; Structural Durability Analysis and Simulations Utilising N Code including Design Life; Linear and Non-Linear Simulations including Abaqus, Nastran and Dyna; Performing structural analysis on complete Trimmed Vehicle Structure Consisting of BIW, Chassis Structure, Interior Structure (IP), Fixed Glass, Bumpers, Modules, and Closures; and Developing new engineering analysis capabilities.
