Job summary

General Motors is seeking a CAE seat engineer to perform seat comfort and structural analyses using FEA, lead STO design efforts, and develop robust models for programs. You will plan studies, correlate analyses with tests, and deliver clear FEA reports while driving mass/cost efficiency.

The role involves hybrid work with 3 days in-office and 2 days remote, reporting to the GM engineering teams. Requirements include a B.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in mechanical or related engineering field and at least 2 years of CAE/seat engineering experience.
• Experience with linear and nonlinear CAE analyses and automotive seat or safety components.
• Familiarity with NX, Nastran, Optistruct, LS-DYNA and test-methods.

Responsibilities

• Perform seat comfort and structural analysis on seat projects at vehicle system level.
• Develop FEA plans and models; lead seat STO and designs to meet performance requirements.
• Correlate FEA results to physical tests and update models and procedures.
• Generate FEA reports and provide design solutions for mass and cost efficiency.

Job Description

DUTIES: Performs seat comfort and structural analysis on assigned seat projects at the vehicle system level. Uses Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other analysis methods to assess and lead seat STO and designs. Develops Finite Element Analysis (FEA) plans for assigned project. Participates in the creation of assigned subsystem Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models. Motivates CAE suppliers and internal resources to meet program milestones and deliverables. Completes FEA analysis including the production of VDDV models from NX math and execution of documented VDDV models per assigned projects. Performs FEA analysis such as H Point/TA, seat comfort analysis using pressure distribution, Seat/Seat Belt Anchorage Strength, Child Restraint Anchorage Strength, Front/Rear Impact, Head Impact, whiplash etc., and lead seat STO and designs to meet performance requirements. Compares FEA results to performance requirements and recommend viable design solutions. Correlates analysis results to physical test and update FEA models and FEA procedures and document results in FEA reports. Generates technical solutions for current, new, and major programs. Performs sophisticated design analysis. Develops engineering designs, including subsystems. Performs virtual assessment of designs and compare results to performance requirements. Initiates design solutions to resolve any performance issues with mass and cost efficiency. Implements engineering changes and specifies and balances system requirements. Plans and implements test and development programs and stays abreast of new technology. Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers. Hybrid Work Policy - 3 days In-office, 2 days remote - Must be able to report to local office.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Structural Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field of study and Two years of experience as a CAE Specialist Engineer, Software Engineer, Structural Engineer, Automotive Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or related role. Two years of experience with: Linear Analysis including Nastran and Optistruct; Non-Linear Analysis including LS Dyna; Seat structural analysis; Automotive Physical Test methods; Material Properties as inputs into CAE analysis tools; Design math systems including NX; Airbag Deployment CAE; Crashworthiness; and Head Impact CAE.
