General Motors is seeking a CAE Engineer to perform seat comfort and structural analyses using FEA at the vehicle system level. The role involves planning and executing FEA models, correlating results to tests, and guiding design changes to meet performance targets.

The ideal candidate has a mechanical/automotive/structural/aerospace engineering background with hands-on experience in Nastran, Optistruct, LS-DYNA, and NX, plus knowledge of seat and crashworthiness CAE methods.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Structural Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Two years of experience as a CAE Specialist/Engineer or related role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform seat comfort and structural analysis on seat projects using FEA at vehicle system level.
  • Develop FEA plans and model subsystems; lead FEA activities to meet program milestones.
  • Correlate FEA results with physical tests and update models and procedures accordingly.
  • Identify design solutions to meet performance, mass, and cost targets and support test development programs.

Job DescriptionDUTIES: Performs seat comfort and structural analysis on assigned seat projects at the vehicle system level. Uses Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other analysis methods to assess and lead seat STO and designs. Develops Finite Element Analysis (FEA) plans for assigned project. Participates in the creation of assigned subsystem Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models. Motivates CAE suppliers and internal resources to meet program milestones and deliverables. Completes FEA analysis including the production of VDDV models from NX math and execution of documented VDDV models per assigned projects. Performs FEA analysis such as H Point/TA, seat comfort analysis using pressure distribution, Seat/Seat Belt Anchorage Strength, Child Restraint Anchorage Strength, Front/Rear Impact, Head Impact, whiplash etc., and lead seat STO and designs to meet performance requirements. Compares FEA results to performance requirements and recommend viable design solutions. Correlates analysis results to physical test and update FEA models and FEA procedures and document results in FEA reports. Generates technical solutions for current, new, and major programs. Performs sophisticated design analysis. Develops engineering designs, including subsystems. Performs virtual assessment of designs and compare results to performance requirements. Initiates design solutions to resolve any performance issues with mass and cost efficiency. Implements engineering changes and specifies and balances system requirements. Plans and implements test and development programs and stays abreast of new technology. Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers. Hybrid Work Policy - 3 days In-office, 2 days remote - Must be able to report to local office.REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Structural Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field of study and Two years of experience as a CAE Specialist Engineer, Software Engineer, Structural Engineer, Automotive Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or related role.
