Summary

The Survey Technician will function as part of a multi-discipline internal engineering, design, and survey team reporting to the Manager of Land Survey. The Survey Technician should have a thorough understanding of land surveying requirements, drafting standards, and general survey knowledge.

Job Responsibilities

1. Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
2. Prepare survey descriptions and exhibits in accordance with company standards.
3. Act as part of the internal surveying team to execute project deliverables for Project Managers consistent with Energy Transfer standards, specifications, and expectations. Ability to execute projects internally, working directly with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, Operations, and internal staff.
4. Assist with verifying the accuracy of field survey data.
5. Evaluate, recommend, design, and implement modifications to applicable procedures and processes to increase efficiency on survey deliverables.

Capabilities

1. Working knowledge and experience of survey standards and deliverables.
2. Working knowledge and experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and Carlson Survey.
3. Working knowledge and experience in pipeline and facility surveys.
4. Associate degree or higher in surveying technology/geomatics, civil engineering, or related field.
5. 5+ years of related experience.
6. Title conferred will be based on candidates’ years of relevant experience.
7. Direct experience working in the survey industry is highly preferred.
8. Strong communication skills to support building relationships with project managers, sponsors, and other internal project stakeholders.
9. Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision.
10. Strong problem-solving skills, including logical thought processes, with ability to resolve complex issues. Ability to be proactive rather than reactive.
11. Support for multiple projects concurrently in a fast-paced environment.
12. Comfort in presenting information to all levels of management.
13. Ability to read, comprehend, and comment on technical specifications.
14. Proficient with Autodesk Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, and Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

• Normal office conditions.
• Occasional overnight travel may be required.
• Visits to project sites, which may include exposure to materials, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and loud machinery. Must be able to work outdoors, wear PPE, and walk on uneven surfaces.
