Job summary

Acoustical Sheetmetal Company (ASC) is seeking a CAD Technician to support design and fabrication of backup power generator packaging systems. You will draft and model using Onshape and SolidWorks, converting proposals into production-ready drawings and 3D models.

The role emphasizes drafting, modeling, and ensuring accuracy with ASME standards; candidates with additional mechanical engineering background or manufacturing experience are encouraged and will be favored.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in CAD/engineering tech required.
• 2+ years drafting/design experience in manufacturing/industrial setting required.
• Proficiency with Onshape, SolidWorks, or similar 3D CAD software required.
• Ability to create 2D drawings from 3D models using ASME standards.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes as they relate to design.

Responsibilities

• Create and revise drawings and models from provided specifications, applying modeling and documentation practices that keep files clean, organized, and easy to edit or reference.
• Check your own work for completeness, accuracy, and maintain proper revision log documentation on assigned projects.
• Coordinate with other Designers and Design Engineers to keep design effort aligned across shared projects.
• Support the transition of projects from design through fabrication and final assembly, including visiting the shop floor to gather information on production build issues.
• Complete project responsibilities within scope and production schedule, participating in project meetings as needed.

Salary Range: $62,000.00 To $72,000.00 Annually

Role Overview

ASC's CAD Department is hiring a CAD Technician to support the design and fabrication of backup power generator packaging systems. Sales Engineering provides the initial equipment selection and proposal; from there, you will create the drawings and models needed to bring that proposal to production, using Onshape and SolidWorks.

This role is primarily focused on drafting and modeling. Candidates who bring additional mechanical engineering background or manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered favorably, though this posting is for a CAD Technician position.

Key Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate's degree in computer aided drafting and design, engineering technology, or similar technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of drafting and design experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Proficiency with Onshape, SolidWorks, or similar 3D CAD software.
• Ability to create 2D drawings from 3D models using ASME standards.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes as they relate to design.

Preferred Qualifications

(Nice to have, not required)

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field.
• 0 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design or manufacturing engineering.
• Experience working with welded assemblies or industrial equipment manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of fabrication processes, welding details, CNC manufacturing, robotic welding concepts, assembly processes.
• Experience with 3D scanning, 3D Printing, CNC Programming, Robotic Programming is a plus but not required.

Primarily an office/CAD environment with regular interaction on the manufacturing floor; exposure to machinery, noise, and fluctuating temperatures when supporting production. Must follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE when in production areas.
