Job summary

Medium is building software that connects engineering intelligence to CAD platforms and enables AI-driven workflows for design and manufacturing. The role emphasizes backend services powering cloud-native integrations and data processing of engineering design data.

You'll work at the intersection of software engineering, CAD automation, and mechanical engineering, collaborating across engineering, research, and product teams to push the boundaries of Engineering AI.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years building and maintaining backend services and production software.
• Strong Python with clean, scalable, maintainable code.
• Experience integrating with commercial CAD APIs (Siemens NX Open, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS API, Creo Toolkit, Autodesk Inventor API).
• Experience cloud-native apps, backend APIs, and data models (Protobuf).
• Experience with 3D engineering data, CAD models, assemblies, and file formats.
• Strong communication across engineering, research, and product teams.
• Built software using at least one commercial CAD API: Siemens NX Open or CATIA or SOLIDWORKS API or Creo Toolkit or Autodesk Inventor API.

Responsibilities

• Translate CAD models into machine-readable engineering data.
• Connect CAD platforms with cloud-native AI services.
• Build scalable APIs for exchanging geometry and metadata.
• Develop Python services to automate engineering workflows.
• Design backend systems that manage CAD assemblies, parts, configurations, and engineering metadata.
• Partner with researchers building next-generation Engineering AI.
