Job summary

Medium in Boston is seeking an experienced software engineer to build AI-driven engineering workflows that connect CAD platforms to cloud services and enable automated design data processing.

You will design APIs, integrate CAD systems with cloud-native infrastructure, and power backend services that manage CAD assemblies, configurations, and engineering metadata. Strong Python expertise and CAD API experience are required.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, CS, or related technical field.
• 5+ years of backend services and production software experience.
• Strong Python engineering skills with clean, scalable code.
• Experience integrating with commercial CAD APIs such as Siemens NX Open, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS API, Creo Toolkit, Autodesk Inventor API.
• Experience building cloud-native backend APIs and data models (Protobuf).
• Experience working with 3D engineering data, CAD models, assemblies, and related file formats.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across engineering, research, and product teams.
• Built software using at least one commercial CAD API: listed above.

Responsibilities

• Translate CAD models into machine-readable engineering data.
• Connect CAD platforms with cloud-native AI services.
• Build scalable APIs for exchanging geometry and metadata.
• Develop Python services that automate complex workflows.
• Design backend systems that manage CAD assemblies, parts, configurations and metadata.
• Partner with researchers building next-generation Engineering AI.
