Job summary

White Cap is seeking a skilled draftsman to detail materials and layouts using AutoCAD, aligning with project specs. You will review plans with customers to determine scope and requirements, and prepare accurate detail drawings.

Under limited supervision, you will update project status in the system, support junior staff, and ensure adherence to standard practices. This role may involve occasional travel and indoor work conditions.

Qualifications

• Technical certification or associate degree may be required.
• 5-7 years of experience in a related area of responsibility.
• Certificate of completion in drafting, industrial drafting/design, or construction preferred.

Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

• Details required material/components using AutoCAD or other method. Prepares layouts according to specifications.
• Interacts with customers to review plans to determine scope and other requirements of the job.
• Back-logs reconciliation pertaining to finished material/components and ordered amounts.
• Reviews drawings and supporting documentation to verify adherence to standard practices.
• Copies, prints, and distributes finished detail plans to customers.
• Assists with maintaining and updating project status in the project management system of record.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Nature and Scope

May modify processes to resolve situations. Under limited supervision, relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach to achieve desired outcomes. Course of action is often determined by interpreting procedures and policies. Work typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor or direct customers of the process. Is sought out and/or assigned to provide general guidance/direction, training, and technical assistance to junior level support personnel. Contributes to employees’ professional development but does not have hiring/firing authority.

Work Environment

Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors, such as dust, fumes or odors, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location and/or there may be a need to stoop regularly or move/lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds). Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Education and Experience

Technical certification or associate degree may be required in some areas. Generally 5-7 years of experience in a related area of responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certificate of completion in drafting, industrial drafting/design, or construction from a technical school and/or college/university.
• Work experience in construction, manufacturing, fabrication or drafting.
• Engineering background preferred.
