Job summary

BILT Incorporated is seeking a CAD Designer 1 for the CAD Operations Team in Grapevine, TX. You will work as a SolidWorks professional, handling 3D modeling tasks, asset modifications, and collaboration across departments to meet tight deadlines.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, ability to read technical docs, and experience with multiple materials. Onsite work is required at the Brand Support Center, with travel to onsite visits as needed.

Qualifications

• US citizen status required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Industrial Design preferred; other relevant education considered.
• 1–4 years in design for manufacturing or similar environment.
• Experience with multiple materials and manufacturing methods.

Responsibilities

• Modify CAD assets to support animation workflows, e.g., separating joined components.
• Generate 3D CAD assets from 2D drawings or reference materials provided by customers.
• Create simple CAD assets from customer products (reverse engineering) and basic mesh work.
• Evaluate assembly processes and highlight potential end-user issues.
• Interface with other departments to ensure design integrity and timely delivery.

About The Job

BILT is seeking CAD Designer 1 for the CAD Operations Team. This individual will be a Solidworks professional, be self-motivated, have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, communicate effectively, give, and take direction well.

Qualifications

• Must be a US Citizen
• Must be able to travel to onsite visits given 2 weeks’ notice.
• Must be able to get up to speed on BILT best practices within the first week and hit the ground running.
• Must have 1-4 years of professional experience working in a design for manufacturing environment.
• Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited 2-4-year university or college is desirable in Engineering, or Industrial Design; will consider other education or relevant experience in lieu of formal degree.
• Must have some experience working with multiple different materials and there manufacturing methods (i.e. wood, plastic, metal)
• Proficient working on multiple projects with multiple complex tasks from start to finish with tight deadlines.
• Strong technical capacity with the ability to read and understand manuals and technical documentation.
• Must understand the difference between parametric modeling and mesh modeling.
• Experience working in corporate, professional install, or industrial products is a plus.
• Previous experience with industrial design or engineering consultancy is a plus.
• Experience interfacing with customers is a plus.
• Experience interfacing with other departments (outside of design/engineering) in an organization on a regular basis is a plus.
• Extremely detail oriented.
• Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently.
• Quick learner
• Be able to evaluate completeness of customer provided CAD in relation to source documentation. Example assembly instructions
• Modify CAD assets to facilitate the animation process such as separating joined components.
• Generate 3D CAD assets from customer provided 2D CAD drawings or other customer provided reference materials.
• Generate simple 3D CAD assets from customer provided products (reverse engineering) and perform simple mesh modeling tasks. Examples include flat pack furniture and smooth faced pillows.
• Experience with different types of materials and how they are manufactured.
• Evaluate the assembly process and highlight any potential complications the end user might experience during the assembly process.

Skills

• Professional with Solidworks 3D Modeling Program, solid modeling, surfacing is a plus. FEA is not necessary.
• Must have a background of using other 3D file types that are not native to solidworks.
• Must understand the different configurations upon import part/solid/surface, part/body modeling, and assembly/part.
• Proficient with Windows based OS
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud is a plus.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, tablets, phones, photocopiers, email, and various communication programs (Zoom, MS Teams, etc.)

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a contractor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job requires the employee to lift at least 1lb to 50lb products and move them around the office to be inspected, measured, and 3D modeled.
