CAD Designer

Shoals Technologies Group, headquartered just north of Nashville, Tennessee, is a leading provider of electrical balance of systems (EBOS) solutions for solar, energy storage, and eMobility. Founded in 1996, the company has introduced innovative technologies that enhance installation efficiency, safety, and system performance, deploying solutions on over 60 GW of solar systems globally.

The company operates manufacturing facilities in Tennessee and Alabama, with sales teams in Spain and Australia serving Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific. Shoals primarily sells to engineering, procurement, and construction firms for solar projects. Due to the custom nature of their solutions, the typical lead time for projects is over 12 months, from quoting to delivery.

Position Summary:

Shoals Technologies is seeking a CAD Designer to report to the Senior Manager of Integration. The role involves managing all 2D CAD files representing products, systems, and components under development. Responsibilities include ensuring proper fit-up of products at the assembly level and maintaining engineering documentation, including bills of material. The CAD Designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to handle multiple projects concurrently.

Responsibilities:

• Manage time independently to meet project deadlines
• Maintain high levels of organization and accuracy in work
• Adhere to department processes, formatting, and design standards
• Develop knowledge of basic PV systems and major components
• Review customer drawings against sales purchase orders and report discrepancies
• Interpret complex customer-supplied drawings and prints
• Identify potential design issues and collaborate on solutions
• Manipulate geometry and manage layers in CAD drawings
• Design layouts and custom products based on project requirements
• Create detailed drawing packages using AutoCAD 2D in architectural format
• Perform detailed takeoffs for custom parts using Excel and CAD
• Review and revise drawings and takeoffs as needed
• Document design notes meticulously for review
• Provide feedback for continuous improvement
• Assist team to meet deadlines and improve efficiencies

Minimum Requirements:

• At least 2 years of experience with AutoCAD or an AutoCAD certificate
• Proficiency in Office suite: Excel, Word, Outlook
• Experience in design takeoffs of moderately complex projects
• Ability to interpret engineering blueprints and layouts accurately
• Knowledge of drafting principles and techniques
• High accuracy in creating and modifying 2D drawings
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Highly organized, efficient, and capable of working independently
• Basic knowledge of PV systems and design
• Good math and analytical skills
