Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Designer Associate to develop and coordinate design drawings and sketches for engineering projects. The role requires proficiency in CAD and MS Office, with emphasis on design basis development, cost estimating, and QA/QC of deliverables.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in AAS drafting or related engineering tech; equivalent experience accepted.
• Proficiency with conventional drafting symbols and color discernment.
• Experience in electric utility or related industrial drafting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate design drawings and sketches.
• Proficiency in CAD and MS Office.
• Prepare calculations and conduct design studies as required.
• Carry final drawings and related information through construction readiness.
• Coordinate and review the work of others; perform design verification.
• Prepare material and cost estimates; submit progress reports.
• Lead training for employees in basic skills of the position.
• Support safety, ethics, and compliance programs.
