Job summary

Southern Valve Service in Baton Rouge, LA is seeking an experienced Senior CNC Programmer to lead CAD/CAM implementation and expand our machining capabilities. This is a hands-on leadership role, guiding the expansion and serving as the primary programmer for CNC mills, lathes and related equipment.

The ideal candidate has five+ years in industrial CNC programming, strong CAM platform knowledge (Mastercam, Esprit, GibbsCAM, Fusion or NX CAM), and experience building standard workflows,

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of CNC programming and CAD/CAM experience in an industrial manufacturing or machine-shop environment.
• Demonstrated experience developing programs for multiple CNC machines, including mills and lathes.
• Strong working knowledge of CAM platforms such as Mastercam, Esprit, GibbsCAM, Fusion or NX CAM.
• Experience implementing, expanding or standardizing a CAD/CAM programming system.
• Understanding of post-processors, machine controls, G-code, M-code and program verification.
• Ability to evaluate software and machining solutions based on capability, usability, support and value.
• Strong knowledge of tooling, workholding, speeds/feeds and machining-process development.
• Ability to read drawings, CAD models, GD&T and technical specifications.
• Experience creating setup documentation, tool libraries and controlled program records.
• Ability to lead a technical project, explain recommendations clearly and train shop personnel.
• Strong troubleshooting, organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate CNC machines, controllers, tooling and machining requirements.
• Participate in selecting the CAD/CAM platform best suited for equipment and work.
• Collaborate with management, machinists and vendors during implementation.
• Develop and maintain post-processors, machine configurations and program verification methods.
• Standardize CAD-to-CAM workflows for drawings, models, dimensions and reverse-engineered components.
• Create and optimize programs for CNC mills, lathes and other shop equipment.
• Develop machining strategies, tooling selections, workholding concepts, speeds/feeds and sequences.
• Produce setup sheets, tooling lists and instructions for machinists.
• Maintain program naming, storage, revision control, approval and backup practices.
• Verify programs through simulation and machine prove-outs.
• Develop reusable templates, tool libraries and machining standards.
• Train machinists and personnel on new programs and practices.
• Troubleshoot programming, post-processor, tooling and dimensional problems.
• Improve cycle time, consistency, machine utilization and capability.
• Coordinate with Quality Control to meet drawings and repair requirements.
