Description du poste

** PLEASE NOTE: THIS ROLE WILL BE 100% ON-SITE IN WASHINGTON, DC **

Job Summary

The client is replacing approximately 1,200 end-of-life wireless access points (APs) across its primary hospital. The project includes relocating existing APs, installing net-new APs to improve coverage density, and connecting each AP to existing structured cabling. A third-party low-voltage cabling contractor is leading the majority of the cabling and installation work, and the hospital’s telecom and network teams are validating the deployment.

The primary focus of these roles is completing AP installations in patient rooms that are difficult to access. Technicians will coordinate around room closures and patient discharges, and complete the work within short windows when a room is vacant. When not responding to vacant rooms, technicians will work alongside the cabling contractor and hospital teams to support the broader deployment. The role requires a technician with hands-on cabling experience who can work independently, adapt quickly, and follow the strict safety and infection control practices of a hospital environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, swap, and relocate wireless access points in patient rooms and other hard-to-access areas, including bracket assembly, ceiling or wall mounting, and connecting the AP to the cabling.
  • Respond to vacant patient rooms identified through room closure and discharge reports, completing installations within the available time window.
  • Connect secondary cables at each AP location to the new or relocated AP, including patching from the biscuit to the AP, and confirm the AP powers on and links.
  • Perform one-for-one AP swaps and validate connectivity with the hospital network team.
  • Work in ceiling spaces, including pulling and routing short cable runs for relocated APs, following all infection control and ICRA protocols, including the use of HEPA tents and carts where required.
  • Work alongside the cabling contractor’s crews during walkthroughs and installations, supporting issues as they arise.
  • During periods of inactivity in patient rooms, serve as a point of escalation, report issues to the hospital network team and coordinating with contractor and department contacts, facilitate next rounds of APs for deployment, supplemental patching of cables in IDF closets, etc.
  • Follow all hospital policies for safety, badging, patient privacy, and access to clinical areas.
  • As needed:
  • Re-terminate and test cabling using a cable tester or Fluke when a termination fails or an AP relocation requires it.
  • Verify correct cable connections in telecom closets as needed and perform supplemental patching of cables in closets.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience installing and mounting wireless access points, including ceiling grid and wall mounts, bracket assembly, cable connection, and confirming power and link.
  • Experience swapping and relocating APs, including working in finished ceiling spaces and connecting to existing cabling.
  • Experience with structured cabling, including copper termination and testing, and the ability to re-terminate and test cabling to specification, if and when necessary.
  • Experience operating a cable tester or certifier such as a Fluke, and interpreting test results to troubleshoot failed runs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize competing needs, and adapt quickly to changing room availability.
  • Experience working in occupied, sensitive, or access-limited environments with strict time windows.
  • Comfortable working on ladders and in ceiling spaces, with the physical ability to lift and work at height for extended periods.
  • Prior experience working in a hospital environment, including adherence to infection control practices, HEPA tent protocols, and required vaccinations (including influenza) and onboarding requirements.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with network engineers, vendor crews, and hospital department staff.
  • Preferred: Experience on large-scale AP deployments or refreshes across a hospital, campus, or enterprise.
  • Preferred: BICSI Installer 1 or 2, or a similar certification.
