TEKsystems in Rock Hill, SC is seeking a Data Center Cable Technician to support data center buildouts and structured cabling, including Cat5e/Cat6 and fiber optic work. This contract-to-hire role involves routing, securing cabling, and installing racks and related infrastructure on active job sites.

You will read blueprints, follow safety standards, and work outdoors or indoors as required. Physical, hands-on work and teamwork are essential to success in this role.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role with basic knowledge of structured cabling.
• Experience with Cat5e/Cat6 and fiber optics is helpful.
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings and project specs.

Responsibilities

Data Center Cable TechnicianJob Description

We are seeking motivated and hardworking individuals to support the construction and buildout of data center environments. This role involves structured cabling installation, network infrastructure support, and hardware installation both inside and outside of data center facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, route, and secure structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cabling.
• Terminate and test Cat6 copper cabling.
• Assist with fiber optic installation, routing, and connectivity.
• Install wireways, bus duct, cable trays, receptacles, switches, and related infrastructure.
• Build and outfit telecommunications and network closets.
• Mount and install backboards, racks, cabinets, patch panels, cross-connects, fiber enclosures, and associated hardware.
• Install grounding and bonding systems for racks, equipment, and cabling as required.
• Complete IDC terminations and patch panel connections.
• Pull cable and assist with conduit installation projects.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and project documentation.
• Follow quality, safety, and installation standards throughout all phases of construction.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of network equipment and structured cabling systems.
• Experience with Cat5e/Cat6 cable installation and termination.
• Understanding of fiber optic cabling and connectivity.
• Experience with rack-and-stack installations.
• Ability to perform punch-down terminations and patch panel installations.
• Familiarity with telecommunications color codes and industry standards.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.
• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, including:
• Cable cutters
• Compression tools
• Hammer drills
• Other cabling and construction-related equipment

Work Environment

• Data center construction and infrastructure projects.
• Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors.
• Physically demanding role requiring lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and working on active job sites.

Schedule

• Monday through Saturday
• 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
