Job Overview
Northrop Grumman, a trusted provider of mission‑enabling solutions for global security, seeks a Cable Engineer/Principal Cable Engineer Technical Services in McClellan, CA. The role supports the design, test, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems and cable harness products. Relocation assistance is not available, travel is required 10% of the time, and a security clearance (Secret at minimum) is required at start.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical advice and guidance on installation, adaptation, configuration or enhancement of cable & harness products, programs and systems.
- Resolve cable & harness problems, troubleshoot product and modify product to meet customer requirements.
- Work may be done at customer site and involves software systems and programs for corporate, individual and government entities.
- Apply electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to cable & harness components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construct developmental assemblies, sub‑assemblies and components; perform quality testing.
- Support 3D cable routing, wiring diagrams and interconnect diagrams.
- Assist in design, test, modification, fabrication and assembly of prototype electromechanical systems.
- Package CCAs and electronic modules for qualified use in demanding airborne environments.
- Identify and synthesize requirements using a system engineering approach to provide novel solutions.
- Incorporate design for manufacturing principles to reduce product costs and assembly time.
- Provide engineering oversight during prototype and production hardware assembly & test.
- Develop preliminary and critical design review content for peer and customer presentations.
- Create technical data packages including fabrication, source control and assembly drawings.
- Employ strong interpersonal and communication skills while operating within an integrated product team.
- Promote knowledge transfer within the organization by sharing lessons learned and best practices.
- Provide engineering support to material review boards and failure review boards as needed.
- Work with agility and minimal direction to complete program tasks on time; failure to obtain results or erroneous decisions typically result in serious program delays and resource expenditure.
Basic Qualifications – Cable Engineer
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science, engineering, or related discipline with 2 years of experience; or 0 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree.
- Additional 4 years of relevant experience/education can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science degree.
- Demonstrated experience with cable / harness design, routing and documentation.
- Demonstrated experience with 2D and 3D cable routing and design with CAD packages; cable routing using Siemens Capital or similar packages.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI (access) security clearance.
Basic Qualifications – Principal Cable Engineer
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science, engineering, or related discipline with 5 years of experience; or 3 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree.
- Additional 4 years of relevant experience/education can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science degree.
- Demonstrated experience with cable / harness design, routing and documentation.
- Demonstrated experience with 2D and 3D cable routing and design with CAD packages; cable routing using Siemens Capital or similar packages.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Top Secret/SCI (access) security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PTC Cabling, SolidWorks, Siemens NX.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with electromechanical or electronics cable design for airborne/military applications.
- Experience in CAD design packages, PTC Cabling, SolidWorks Cable Routing and Siemens NX/Siemens Capital.
- Diverse product development experience in flight‑qualified electronics packaging design.
- Proficiency with a PLM for releasing documentation.
- Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Exceptional attention to detail, self‑motivation and self‑regulation.

Salary
Primary Level Salary Range: $83,400.00 – $125,200.00. Secondary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 – $155,400.00. Salary is determined by scope, responsibilities, experience, education and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential and discretionary bonuses may apply.
