Job summary

Cub Creek Science Camp in Rolla, MO seeks mature, independent Cabin Counselors/Instructors for the 11-week summer program. You will live in a cabin with peers, provide activity instruction (Physics & Engineering, Animal Care, Pottery, Outdoor Studies), and ensure campers’ health, hygiene, and safety.

Qualifications

  • Completed at least 1 year of college education or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and constructively.
  • Willingness to put campers first and follow camp rules.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Team player who can take and give direction.

Responsibilities

  • Guide campers on schedule and activity choices.
  • Ensure campers are on time with activities and have supplies.
  • Lead cabin activities, songs, and age-appropriate games.
  • Provide emotional and behavioral support as needed.
  • Instruct assigned camp activities and ensure camper safety.

As a mentor and role model at Cub Creek Science Camp, you'll gain hands-on experience, build your resume, and connect with a global community of staff and campers who share your passion for animals and nature. With 300+ animals and 100+ activities, our unique take on the traditional sleep-away camp is a place where you can inspire kids, help them build self-confidence, and make lifelong friends.

2027 Dates
Cabin Counselor/Instructors

Workcooperatively with fellow Cabin Counselors to provide a healthy,safe, and enjoyable camp environment and experience for all campers.Cabin Counselors and Instructors live in a cabin group of 16 campersand provide activity instruction to campers during the day.

Wehave openings available for instructors in the following activities:

  • Physics& Engineering
  • CrimeScience
  • Animal Care and Zoology
  • Pottery and Ceramics
  • Outdoorand Nature Studies
  • Caving
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provideguidance to campers on their schedule, activity choices, and abidingcamp rules
  • Ensurecampers are on time to activities with the appropriate supplies.Assist campers at meal times, and in the cabin to ensure campers aremaintaining health and hygiene practices such as showering, wearingclean clothes and getting appropriate sleep
  • Leadcabin activities, songs, and games that are engaging and ageappropriate
  • Provideemotional and behavioral support to campers as needed by followingbehavior management techniques as outlined in the staff manual andduring training
  • Provideinstruction of assigned camp activities to campers
  • Ensurethe safety of all campers when participating in campactivities
Requirements
  • Completedat least 1 year of college education or equivalent
  • Adesire to positively impact the life of a child and willingness toput the needs of campers first
  • Havea passion for science, animals and childhood development
  • Ableto effectively communicate ideas, and instructions in a constructivemanner
  • Self-motivatedand able to work on tasks and assigned goals with minimalsupervision
  • Bewilling to learn new concepts and skills
  • Ableto work in a team and both give and take direction fromothers
  • Willingnessto adhere to camp’s code of conduct, rules and policies

Startingpay $4050 for 11 week summer. Additional $100 credit in campstore for snacks and supplies. Housing, meals, and laundryincluded. Weekend work is required, this position requiresavailability to work on-site 7 days a week for the contractperiod. 2-hour break provided each day, and 1 scheduled day offeach week.Additional leadership training and certificationsare available to the right candidates, including high ropes courseand lifeguard certifications. ** INTERNATIONAL STAFF - Pay and benefits will vary from advertised, please speak with Cub Creek directly **
