Purpose

Function as a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant under the medical direction of an adult anesthesiologist.

Position Summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin is seeking a Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) to join its Adult Anesthesiology Division. At Froedtert Sargent Health Center, the practice of anesthesiology encompasses a medically directed team approach involving faculty anesthesiologists, anesthesiology fellows, residents, and advanced practice certified nurse anesthetists and CAAs. The successful candidate must possess the ability to provide high-quality anesthesia care to a complex patient population, working directly under the supervision of our Adult Anesthesiologists and as part of a highly trained and dedicated team of CAAs and certified nurse anesthetists.

Responsibilities:

  1. Administer general and local anesthesia
  2. Maintain anesthesia delivery systems and monitors, including testing and calibration
  3. Prepare patients to be effectively monitored
  4. Monitor patients under anesthesia
  5. Make recommendations regarding anesthetic care plans
  6. Perform post-procedure tests on patients to ensure that they are recovering well
  7. Responsible for the operation of anesthesia equipment to monitor patients while delivering direct anesthesia care
  8. Provide direct patient care before, during, and after anesthesia to ensure continuity of care and quality
  9. Obtain complete patient medical histories, conducting physical exams, and pre-procedure interviews
  10. Review the complete patient medical history to confirm its authenticity with the patient/family to ensure it is accurate with the physical exams and pre-procedure interviews
  11. Administer/order required diagnostic and laboratory tests
  12. Work with Anesthesiologists to determine the next step of prep for the procedures and begin the stages of prepping the patient for the procedure
  13. Employ CPR or other emergency procedures as indicated
  14. Perform various administrative duties that might involve collecting medical records, conducting patient chart reviews, and following up with patients/families pre or post procedures
