Job Summary

FreeWheel’s mission is to build great advertising software. We offer the most extensible and transparent advertising buying platform in the world, operating at a massive global scale. We look for a C++ Software Engineer to join our Buyercloud (formerly Beeswax) Ad Serving team. The Ad Serving system is the backbone of the Buyercloud platform, listening to billions of ad auctions per day, deciding which of our hundreds of customers should participate, and executing complex bidding strategies to provide optimal results, in milliseconds.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data-driven and model-driven features for our customers to execute their marketing campaigns effectively.
• Scale our distributed application and infrastructure to meet growing demand.
• Optimize algorithms and software architectures to reduce cloud hosting costs.
• Support and extend the observability stack to capture and alert on any issues.
• Participate in on-call rotations and serve as an escalation contact for service incidents.
• Write systems documentation, playbooks, and other instructional manuals.
• Provide independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance; maintain regular, punctual attendance.
• Work nights and weekends as required by variable schedule(s).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• Deep understanding of building systems at scale, with experience in optimizing performance, scaling, and data modeling.
• Strong grasp of software architecture and design principles.
• Significant experience with compiled languages such as C++, Java, Rust, or Go; C++ is the ideal preference.
• Experience working in a Linux ecosystem.
• Excellent communication skills – clear, thorough, and timely in speaking, listening, and writing.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across remote locations and time zones.

Compensation

Base pay range: $109,759.26 - $164,638.89, dependent on experience and other job-related factors.
