Job summary

Summit Utilities is seeking a Construction & Maintenance Technician I based in Searcy, AR to support the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems. You will perform manual labor, locate gas lines, and operate a range of hand and power tools in daily field operations.

Strong safety awareness and the ability to respond to emergencies are essential. Applicants should hold a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work outdoors daily in all weather conditions.
• Must be available to respond to emergencies during and after normal hours.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, or replace steel and plastic pipe.
• Provide First Responder assistance in emergency situations.
• Load and unload required equipment, tools, and supplies onto and from truck.
• Locate gas lines.
• Use a variety of hand tools and power tools, including picks, shovels, sharpshooters, pipe wrenches, pipe cutters, bolt cutters, pavement saws, jack hammers, air guns, etc.
• Operate a motor vehicle and heavy equipment and the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
• Operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
• Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch daily for extended periods of time and in all types of weather conditions
• Handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion
• Respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and occasionally return to work while off duty
• Certify and don personal protective equipment daily
• Submit to random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions
• Perform other duties as assigned
