Responsibilities

Job description

Job Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Bypass Technician are to provide support for bypass and fusing operations by completing simple HDPE fusion as well as setup, installation, removal, and teardown of bypass systems at jobsites, and to assist in mobilization and demobilization to and from jobsites. The Bypass Technician will generally work under the direct supervision of a Fusion Technician II or higher and will serve as a working team member and individual contributor to the overall team’s success.

Typical Duties And Responsibilities – Technician I
  • Enroll in Mersino’s Butt Fusion Certification program up to 24″ diameter pipe; complete simple straight run fusion under direct supervision
  • Set up the fusion machine under guidance from a Fusion Technician to learn how to set proper hydraulic pressures and heat plate temperatures for the pipe that will be fused
  • Perform daily visual and weekly documented equipment inspections of the fusion machine; learn basic fusion machine maintenance such as oil changes, filter changes, hydraulic fluid changes, and general care of the machine
  • Complete Mersino’s forklift certification program for rough terrain forklifts; move pumps, compressors, generators, hoses, and other equipment under supervision utilizing proper rigging, lift, and suspended load procedures
  • Complete bypass and fusing operational support activities with little supervision including laying out pipes, bolting flanges, and moving and preparing other materials on site
  • Independently identify components of pumps and pumping systems such as pipes, fittings, sizes, etc.
  • Ensure proper use of specialty tools such as chainsaws, including safety procedures and required PPE
  • Learn how to properly operate, troubleshoot, and maintain pumps, pumping equipment, and generators including how to start, power up, monitor, inspect, etc.
  • Set up and tear down equipment and systems for assigned projects
  • Load, unload and transport materials and equipment to/from job sites
  • Complete minor repairs of equipment on site as well as preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles or equipment as directed and as required
  • Perform refueling activities for equipment on site under direct supervision, ensuring proper safety procedures are followed throughout the process
  • Clean, organize and maintain jobsites, yard and shop areas as required
  • Adhere to applicable company and regulatory agency environmental, health and safety standards; ensure safe work practices at all times
  • Ensure all policies and procedures outlined in the Fleet Safety Program, including DOT requirements, are followed when driving a company vehicle
  • Participate in site safety activities such as JSA’s, safety observations, incident reports, etc.
  • Maintain and complete all necessary paperwork per company policy
  • Ensure that The Mersino Way is a guiding document in all daily activities
Additional Duties And Responsibilities – Technician II
  • Fully trained and able to independently complete bypass and fusing operational activities including straight pipe fusion up to 24″, bolting flanges, system layout, moving and/or maintaining equipment on site
  • Complete Fusion Machine daily visual and weekly document inspections and preventative maintenance with no oversight including oil changes, filter changes, hydraulic fluid changes, and general care of the machine; be able to identify when Fusion Machine repairs are needed
  • Learn how to fuse other miscellaneous components such as 45’s & 90’s, Tees, valves, etc., as well as single pump tie‑ins and fixed points for discharge connections
  • Assist in identifying locates and underground utilities before any underground activities begin; complete training for underground utilities safety
  • Learn to read construction site plans and blueprints under direction from a Fusion Technician II or higher
  • Complete soil classification training to better understand job site conditions
  • Participate in the completion of daily fusion reports
  • Ensure all necessary tools and supplies are stocked in the fusion trailer and readily available at the jobsite
  • Assist in the training of Bypass Laborers and Bypass Technician I’s
Qualifications
  • 6‑9+ months of experience as a Bypass Technician I or an equivalent role
  • 12+ months of experience in HDPE fusion and bypass field operations with proven ability to complete straight run fusion, as well as fusion machine setup, inspections, and preventative maintenance
  • Butt fusion certification up to 24″ diameter pipe
  • Rough Terrain Forklift Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license in state of residence and a clean driving record
  • Valid DOT Medical Card
  • OSHA 10 Certification
  • Rigging & Signalperson Certification
