Job description

The Buyer uses expertise in performing a variety of purchasing activities including pricing, negotiating terms, volume discounts, long‑term contracts and delivery of goods/services with suppliers. Applies government laws and regulations while conducting procurement activities and ensures alignment with management objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Manage supplier cost, quality, and delivery, driving resolution within the site team and escalating for additional support; implement actions to resolve supplier non‑conformance issues.
  • Support sourcing of new products and new‑product introduction activities in line with company policies, processes, and strategy.
  • Organize, direct, and implement cost‑reduction activities to ensure maximum return to the division for minimum expenditures.
  • Implement processes to manage risk within the supply chain and monitor procurement procedures to comply with government laws (domestic/international), regulations, and company policy.
  • Manage contractual differences between purchase‑order requirements and supplier performance; establish contractual obligations and ensure compliance with laws and truthful negotiations.
  • Raise orders and expedite deliveries to support site manufacturing needs; support inventory‑reduction actions to meet inventory goals.
  • Participate in site‑specific procurement and supplier quality development when required, including for unique materials or services.
  • Monitor the changing marketplace and develop work‑around plans to avoid negative impacts on corporate cost and delivery performance objectives.
  • Plan tactics and strategies for negotiations of subcontracts to maintain expenditures within program material budget limitations.
  • Develop and deploy procurement processes and practices in collaboration with division and group teams to drive continuous improvement and align activities across the company.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web browsers.
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in financial and/or accounting applications.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of PC software applications and strong understanding of PC operating systems.
  • Knowledge of SAP or other ERP/MRP systems.
Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment; requires the ability to sit for extended periods (66%+ of each day).
  • Requires the ability to hear the telephone, enter data on a computer, and may require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
