Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Location: Glenwood Springs, Colorado

Pay Range: Hiring/Starting pay range is $25.25 - $32.19/hourly, based on experience.

Position purpose

Responsible for managing RFTA’s parts, equipment, and supplies inventory through purchasing, inventory control, receiving, and storage, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with procurement regulations.

Essential duties / responsibilities
  • Operates vehicles in compliance with RFTA policies and federal and state traffic laws.
  • Safely loads and transports up to 5,000 lbs. over distances of 250+ miles as needed.
  • Procures parts, supplies, and services in accordance with RFTA procurement regulations, ensuring optimal pricing, quality, and compliance.
  • Manages vendor relationships, conducts bidding for routine purchases, and arranges deliveries and shipments.
  • Ensures proper tracking and return of part cores to vendors.
  • Ensures adherence to established procurement policies; escalates non-standard transactions for approval.
  • Receives, logs, tags, and stores materials appropriately.
  • Conducts inventory counts and reconciliations to maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Forecasts usage trends and places timely orders to meet seasonal demands.
  • Orders fuel and monitors usage.
  • Maintains an orderly and labeled parts room.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Accurately records all inventory transactions electronically and in writing.
  • Documents all actions taken in a professional manner in written and /or electronic format.
  • Completes all necessary forms (e.g., accident, incident, and spill reports, core and warranty information and etc.).
  • Coordinates with vendors for repairs and returns non-functional parts for credit.
  • Works closely with maintenance staff on supply needs.
  • Coordinates with department Maintenance Managers on critical parts for red-tagged assets.
  • Assists in interdepartmental communication and collaboration.
  • Attends and actively participates in routine safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Continuously improves professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in training sessions and relevant educational opportunities.
  • Updates fleet condition reports.
  • Acts as RFTA’s central point for shipping and receiving operations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance department requirements and inventory management.
  • Proficiency in procurement, vendor relations, and compliance with purchasing regulations.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and inventory management software (e.g., Trapeze EAM, Insite Veeder Root, Cummins Quickserve, Zonar EVIR, NFI Web Portal).
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to manage time and workload effectively.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret and utilize parts manuals, service updates, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Adherence to workplace safety protocols and best practices.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certifications and Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. If holding an out-of-state license, must obtain a Colorado license within 90 days. Underground Storage Tank (UST) Certification (Class C). RFTA Forklift Certification.

Experience
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in storeroom management, purchasing, or accounting.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience or a combination of formal training and hands-on experience preferred.
Working Conditions
  • Physically demanding role requiring heavy lifting (up to 125 lbs. occasionally, 75 lbs. frequently).
  • Regular local travel between shops and for parts pickup/delivery.
  • Potential exposure to bodily fluids and hazardous materials, with strict adherence to safety regulations.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided.
  • Must be able to pass fitness for duty test and drug and alcohol prior to employment.
  • RFTA Vehicle Maintenance Department operates two locations 24 hrs./7 days week 365 days a year.
  • All employees are expected to work weekends, holidays and any shift as necessary.
  • Most shifts are 10 ½ hours with non-traditional starting times; generally, the morning shift (6:00 AM), afternoon (2:00 PM) or graveyard (10:00 PM).
  • There are no conventional Mon-Fri 8am – 5pm shifts.
