Job summary

Bystronic Group in Hoffman Estates, IL, seeks a Buyer/Planner I to manage material procurement and planning for timely, cost-effective production. You will maintain inventory levels and collaborate with suppliers, using SAP and Excel for master data across all parts.

Responsibilities include issuing POs from MRP data, monitoring safety stock, negotiating terms, tracking orders, and supporting cost savings initiatives. Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years in purchasing preferred.

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a purchasing role or equivalent education.

In a nutshell:

The Buyer/Planner I is responsible for managing the procurement and planning of materials, goods, and services to ensure timely and cost-effective production. This role involves maintaining accurate inventory levels through collaboration with suppliers. This role will require substantial work in SAP and Excel, so strong skills are required to create and maintain master data for all parts needed in support of order completion for Bystronic in the United States.

What you will be doing:

• Review material requirements planning (MRP) data to issue purchase orders.
• Routine review and update of safety stock levels.
• Monitor and manage inventory levels to avoid shortages or overstocking and meet target inventory turns. Review Exceptions messages to adjust delivery dates, push out or expedite orders as needed.
• Work with suppliers to negotiate terms, lead times, and pricing, building and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
• Track order status and follow up with suppliers on delays or discrepancies to ensure on-time delivery.
• Assist in resolving issues related to supply chain disruptions, quality concerns, price discrepancies or material shortages.
• Conduct cost analysis to identify potential savings and recommend process improvements.
• Assist with sourcing by helping to identify new vendors and requesting RFQ’s. File quotes accordingly.
• Review shipping paperwork to assure it is correct and aligned with ERP.
• Perform master data maintenance to ensure all purchasing and source data is up to date and complete in ERP.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Manage the procurement process for materials and components, ensuring competitive pricing and on-time delivery.
• Follow up on open Purchase Orders with all vendors to ensure all PO’s are received by the promised date. Maintain accurate data in SAP.
• Collaborate with Production, Quality and Warehouse to align delivery with production plans.

Key Skillset:

• Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with SAP a plus.
• Personal Skills: Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
• Experience: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Additional Skills & Behaviors: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and generate results in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.

Your education & experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field.
