Job description

Carolina PRG has partnered with a $1B+ manufacturing HQ to help them identify a Business Unit Accounting Manager for a $200M+ business unit. The business unit has multiple US plants and a location in China. The Business Unit Accounting Manager will be based at the company’s headquarters in Charlotte, NC, and will report to the Business Unit Financial Leader.

The Business Unit Accounting Manager will be responsible for day-to-day accounting, forecasting/budgeting, costing, and financial reporting within the segment. Technical expectations for the role include those that are common for multi-national manufacturing enterprises, such as:

  • Managing the financial ERP systems
  • Preparing journal entries during the accounting close and reporting process
  • Performing analytical assessments
  • Assisting with drafting monthly MD&A
  • Actively supporting financial audits
  • Assisting with cost accounting
  • Actively contributing to the forecasting process and the annual and long-term budgeting for the segment.
  • Financial shared services are provided by the corporate office and include credit, collections, accounts payable, payment processing, treasury, taxes, capital expenditures, and leasing.

The Business Unit Accounting Manager will be supported by a senior accountant dedicated to the segment (also based in Charlotte, NC), accountants located in the plants, a cost accounting group, and the company’s shared service groups in the corporate office.

The company has been on a multi-year journey to become more data-driven in support of decision-making across all functions. The accounting manager will be expected to embrace financial data, actively drive others in the segment to evaluate financial outcomes when formulating actions, and embrace the input and perspectives of others when formulating recommendations. The accounting manager must balance the technical requirements of the position with the need to actively collaborate with others in finance and numerous other functional areas.

Beyond meeting base expectations of a manufacturing financial accounting manager, success for this position will be measured by the improvement in the segment’s financially driven decision making, the accounting manager facilitating the development of cross-functional solutions, and the frequency in which the accounting manager is sought-out by others to assist in solving problems. The segment will benefit from a professional with deep analytical experience, data management, and data modeling capabilities, a constant process improvement mindset, and a can-do personality. A professional that also brings talent development experience and a learning/teaching mindset is a plus.


Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant degree
  • CPA and/or MBA is a plus
  • Experience with general ledger functions, making journal entries, and reconciling accounts during the month-end/year-end financial close and reporting process
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven supervision experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing company
  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and in-depth understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Advanced Microsoft skills including V-lookups and pivot tables and use of Power BI
  • Ability to travel up to 10% within the Carolinas
