Accounting Manager 1 Healthcare
Job Summary

This position serves as an Accounting Manager in Finance and Accounting Services Department for the Health System, comprising the Medical Center hospital and clinics, the Community Physician Group, and the Schools of Health. This is a critical role that advises the Director of Accounting-Medical Center, the Vice President of Finance and Accounting Services and UCDH senior management regarding the applicability and implementation of Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB). This position reports to the Director of Accounting-Medical Center and is primarily responsible for managing revenue accounting, ensuring accurate month-end and year-end close processes, analyzing financial data, and preparing reliable financial reports. The Accounting Manager advises senior leadership on applying Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB), ensures proper accounting practices, and supports audits. This position supervises a team of 3 to 6 accountants.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.
Bachelor's degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training
Experience with financial systems, including general ledgers, and budgetary systems
Broad knowledge of financial transactions and systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Proven experience with advanced knowledge of accounting and financial management principles, theory and practice including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB or GASB).
Preferred Qualifications
California Certified Public Accounting License
Bachelor or Master's degree in Accounting preferred
Several years accounting experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
Management/leadership experience preferred.
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including formatting, Vlookups, IFs, Sumifs, and Pivot Tables.
Proven ability to develop executive summaries, as well as detailed financial and statistical reports, including ability to present findings in a professional and clear manner to senior leadership, based on summarization, analyzing and accurately reporting on large volumes of data from multiple systems.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers around the organization, exhibiting assertiveness, a realistic perspective, objectivity, courtesy, tact, diplomacy and awareness of how own actions affect others.
Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with changing and conflicting priorities under tight deadlines and requirements for accuracy.
Strong communication and customer service skills, including ability to prepare materials for a non-financial audience and to clearly and effectively communicate information to all staffing levels, from departmental staff to senior leadership.
Exceptional interpersonal skills used to foster trust and encourage cooperation to achieve results in a culturally diverse environment.
Proven ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities and produce quality work while meeting deadlines.

Department Overview
The General Accounting department ensures accurate financial management of hospital and clinical operations, supports compliance with healthcare regulations, and provides financial insight for strategic planning. It is critical in managing both operational and patient-related financial transactions. The department has accounting responsibility over the patient revenue cycle, non-patient revenue, short term and long term debt, investments, joint ventures, intercompany accounting, accounts receivables, payables, external and internal audits, and general ledger and financial reporting to Executive management.

Work Environment
UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014. Smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes) will be strictly prohibited on any UC Davis owned or leased property, indoors and outdoors, including parking lots and residential space.
This position can be fully remote or can be hybrid. The General Accounting employees who live locally come into the office 3 days a month for monthly close and 3 days a week in July for year-end close. PTO is limited during the months of July - September for year-end close and external audit.
