Job Summary

Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) supports the mission and success of Michigan Medicine by delivering technology solutions, information resources, and end-user support to clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff. The department provides leadership and expertise in information technology strategy, cybersecurity, infrastructure management, and resource planning to ensure reliable, secure, and innovative technology services across the organization.


Division Overview

The HITS MiChart Orders, Provider Documentation, Bugsy, and Beans Dialysis Team supports Michigan Medicine's clinical and operational objectives through the maintenance, optimization, and enhancement of key Epic applications that facilitate patient care, provider workflows, clinical documentation, and Infection Prevention & Epidemiology (IPE) activities. The team collaborates closely with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to deliver innovative technology solutions, implement system improvements, and provide ongoing application support. This division is responsible for the configuration, administration, and continuous improvement of EpicCare Orders, Provider Documentation, Bugsy, and Beans Dialysis, ensuring reliable, efficient, and compliant healthcare technology services across the organization. Team members leverage healthcare and information technology expertise to support application design, workflow analysis, system optimization, order entry processes, order maintenance, and IPE-related initiatives that enhance patient safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.


Responsibilities

The Business Analyst Intermediate is expected to demonstrate proficiency in Epic system configuration and support activities. Individuals certified in Epic applications other than EpicCare Orders and Bugsy will be expected to attain proficiency in EpicCare Orders and Bugsy to effectively support organizational needs.


EpicCare Orders & Bugsy System Configuration


  • Support the planning, design, build, testing, implementation, and ongoing optimization of clinical applications.

  • Configure, maintain, and enhance Epic functionality to support inpatient order management, Infection Prevention & Epidemiology (IPE) workflows, regulatory requirements, and organizational objectives.

  • Participate in Epic upgrades, releases, system enhancements, and maintenance activities to ensure application stability, performance, and compliance with established standards.

  • Collaborate with physicians, clinical staff, ancillary departments, and informatics leaders to translate operational and clinical requirements into effective Epic solutions.

  • Apply best practices in system analysis, configuration, testing, documentation, and stakeholder engagement, consulting senior analysts as needed.


Project Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration


  • Participate in project initiatives and work efforts by facilitating meetings, defining requirements, prioritizing tasks, developing work plans, and meeting established timelines.

  • Assess business and clinical needs, analyze alternatives, evaluate potential risks, and recommend solutions that support operational efficiency and patient care.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes.

  • Assist in balancing competing priorities and resolving issues through collaboration, communication, and consensus-building.


Documentation, Reporting & Communication


  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system build specifications, workflow diagrams, Epic implementation checklists, change management records, and configuration updates.

  • Ensure documentation supports regulatory compliance, audit readiness, knowledge transfer, and long-term sustainability of supported applications.

  • Communicate effectively with clinicians, operational leaders, regulatory partners, and IT teams to provide project updates, gather feedback, and support continuous system improvement.

  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information for diverse audiences.


Continuous Improvement & Professional Development


  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, enhance user experience, increase system efficiency, and reduce administrative burden through application and process optimization.

  • Remain current with Epic releases, new functionality, industry trends, regulatory requirements, and healthcare technology best practices.

  • Contribute towards a culture of collaboration, learning, innovation, and continuous improvement within HITS and Clinical Informatics teams.

  • Participate in assigned on-call rotations, including off-hours and weekend support responsibilities, to ensure continuity of critical clinical systems.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 2-3 Years of IT related experience
