Rio Grande Community College invites applications for a full-time Business Office Accounting Specialist. The Business Office Accounting Specialist is responsible for supporting the daily financial operations of the organization through account reconciliations, financial system imports, journal entry preparation, collections reporting, and other accounting and operational duties. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical and organizational skills who can maintain accuracy in a fast-paced business environment. This position plays a key role in ensuring accurate financial records, reliable reporting, and efficient business office operations while supporting the overall financial health of the organization.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform monthly and periodic account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Execute and validate financial data imports between accounting, student information, and other operational systems.
- Generate and distribute collections reports, aging schedules, and other financial management reports.
- Assist with accounts receivable functions, including student receivable review, billing processes, payment reconciliation, collections activities, and account maintenance.
- Analyze financial transactions and investigate variances as needed.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation within institutional ERP systems, including financial and student information systems.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and accounting procedures. Assist in maintaining compliance with federal, state, institutional, and grant-related financial requirements.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Prepare documentation and assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Perform other accounting, business office, and operational duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications
- Associate degree in Accounting, Business Management, Finance, or a related field required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
- One to three years of accounting, bookkeeping, business office, or related experience preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered to meet qualifications above.
- Experience in higher education finance, student accounts, ERP systems, or governmental accounting preferred.
- Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, accounts receivable, or collections activities is desirable.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive keyboard and data entry functions.
- Professional office environment with regular interaction with faculty, staff, students, and external customers.
- Standard business hours with occasional additional hours as needed to meet operational deadlines.
